how can I tell boris to start the lockdown tomorrow so I don't have to do a 5am start

2020-03-19 01:03:41 UTC

You say please.

2020-03-19 01:03:47 UTC

PLEASE BORIS

2020-03-19 01:04:05 UTC

why the fuck did I agree to work in a shop at 5am on Friday

2020-03-19 01:04:11 UTC

especially with this lockdown rumour

2020-03-19 01:05:00 UTC

I swear, social distancing was announced, then my shop (greggs) got like 3x busier

2020-03-19 01:05:03 UTC

it was madness

2020-03-19 04:21:12 UTC

Makes no sense to lock areas down where there are not yet many cases of covid infections.

2020-03-19 04:21:32 UTC

That will only result in a later, more sudden, uncontrollable outburst.

2020-03-19 06:41:02 UTC

@ETBrooD the issue is the 2 week delay

2020-03-19 06:41:23 UTC

you have no idea if an area that "has no cases" is full of people in incubation period

2020-03-19 06:49:45 UTC

I recommend watching this video. I timestamped the relevant part (14:00, and also 16:20 is important).

The virus can't be "contained", it'll break out eventually. And when it does, you need to be prepared.
It's best to let it spread in a controlled fashion than to contain it for long periods.

2020-03-19 06:57:05 UTC

that's questionable and changes from country to country, and city to city

2020-03-19 06:57:19 UTC

ideally, we would want the virus to not be around

2020-03-19 06:57:36 UTC

which is was and still is, possible, for some

2020-03-19 06:58:25 UTC

as long as a country closes borders and has no infected. That country would stay immune to the problem and out perform all the others

2020-03-19 06:58:57 UTC

Playing for time is a good thing though. More time to prepare is more time to stock up on vital equipment (esp. ventilators apparently) as well as time to develop vaccines and other treatment

2020-03-19 06:59:31 UTC

I'm not too convinced infecting everyone is a good strategy, no one knows shit about the virus. It's been confirmed to cause infertility to 10% of the ones that survive, for example

2020-03-19 06:59:50 UTC

@Crafty agreed

2020-03-19 07:01:06 UTC

that also though, i'm not convinced it's 'nothing bro' for younger people

2020-03-19 07:01:19 UTC

exactly

2020-03-19 07:01:39 UTC

imo, closing borders and going all out on tests is the best course of action

2020-03-19 07:01:44 UTC

they need to figure out more conclusively if it causes long term damage

2020-03-19 07:04:00 UTC

the fear here, is panic

2020-03-19 07:04:08 UTC

this is the first stage

2020-03-19 07:04:11 UTC

this is nothing

2020-03-19 07:04:30 UTC

they need to lockdown coz if people start dying without treatment, chaos will ensue

2020-03-19 07:04:33 UTC

they're gonna close up to 40 underground stations in london today

2020-03-19 07:04:55 UTC

those pics of them crowded with people from yesterday were nuts

2020-03-19 07:05:09 UTC

if it gets chaotic, some countries might even cease to exist 😂

2020-03-19 07:05:40 UTC

problem is, fewer train/tube services = more people crammed in to the same train if they continue to use them - same thing happened in new york

2020-03-19 07:05:52 UTC

so they need to figure that one out

2020-03-19 07:06:23 UTC

in Portugal they will be locking everything

2020-03-19 07:06:57 UTC

only police and health personnel will go around

2020-03-19 07:07:15 UTC

people are mostly worried about food now

2020-03-19 07:07:37 UTC

the market was not prepared for full lockdowns
