Has everyone seen this yet

2020-03-23 23:32:20 UTC

no

2020-03-23 23:32:34 UTC

Some people in the world don't even have computers, much less internet

2020-03-23 23:33:35 UTC

Important stuff to understand, if we wanna unfuck the intellectual property situation in the world

2020-03-23 23:33:52 UTC

Dreaming big, I like you.

2020-03-23 23:34:14 UTC

But first you have to kill The Mouse...

2020-03-23 23:34:45 UTC

Rn, even the biggest anti-establishment candidate would be dead in the water if they suggested loosening the patent and IP laws

2020-03-23 23:35:02 UTC

I think it won't happen until we have governments

2020-03-23 23:35:33 UTC

Which do more to stop creation and help big corpos profit than to protect creators

2020-03-23 23:35:46 UTC

> until we have governments
As opposed to trainwercks?

2020-03-23 23:36:09 UTC

Something like that ye

2020-03-23 23:36:25 UTC

IP has continually proven to be a disaster in the patent area as well.

2020-03-23 23:36:45 UTC

I mean, info anarchism is a good refuge until we solve that, but it's just a refuge.

2020-03-23 23:37:00 UTC

Remember how 3D printers exploded on to the scene? Patents expired making them widely usable.

2020-03-23 23:37:18 UTC

Patents *expired*?!

2020-03-23 23:37:20 UTC

Egads!

2020-03-23 23:37:25 UTC

Unthinkable

2020-03-23 23:37:37 UTC

Companies were sitting on that shit doing nothing with it until they expired.

2020-03-23 23:38:43 UTC

Joerg Sprave made a good vid on why patenting doesn't work well for individuals too

2020-03-23 23:38:44 UTC

Think of it this way.

Humans respond to incentives and we naturally are drawn to power. Some more than others.
In a system where you are incentivised to fizzle out any competition there's absolutely no incentive for truly free expression. There are degrees of course but I guess this is the gist of it.

2020-03-23 23:39:31 UTC

I am just interested in freedom to express my small sparks of genius, that's all

2020-03-23 23:39:39 UTC

I would like that too

2020-03-23 23:39:44 UTC

Most people don't

2020-03-23 23:39:51 UTC

Power, money, all of that, is just a side effect

2020-03-23 23:40:08 UTC

🤷‍♂️

2020-03-23 23:41:19 UTC

At least nobody seems to be talking about extensions on IP anymore but they really need reigned in. Being held back by somebody sitting on or poorly developing a patented product for 20 years was bad enough ages ago but with as fast as things move now tech being locked behind a patent for 20 years is an eternity.

2020-03-23 23:41:39 UTC

Smartphones are a good example

2020-03-23 23:41:55 UTC

Similar problem until it was released into the freemarket

2020-03-23 23:42:06 UTC

Anyway, signing off, gotta wake up early and make Poland function despite lockdowns

2020-03-23 23:42:07 UTC

And copyright should go back to the original 14 years, maybe even axe the 14 year extension they used to be able to apply for.

2020-03-23 23:43:06 UTC

Back in the day when copyright was 14+14 years almost no industry bothered applying for that extension.

2020-03-23 23:44:10 UTC

If you can't figure out how to monetize your work in 14 years you dun fucked up and you don't deserve a lifetime+70 years.

That NY Times bit:
> New C.D.C. data shows that nearly 40 percent of patients sick enough to be hospitalized were age 20 to 54

2020-03-23 23:53:11 UTC

Dumbass zoomers and millennials think they are immune. That percentage should be closer to 20%.

2020-03-23 23:53:16 UTC

Scary but true

2020-03-24 00:02:35 UTC

Maybe the Germans have something in their water or their food and the solution is a lot simpler...I haven't seen much research on that yet.
