What price maintaining the Monroe Doctrine?

2018-10-28 06:02:59 UTC

Do we really want Chinese bases in Honduras and Nicaragua?

2018-10-28 06:03:36 UTC

China desperately wants bases close to us to cause mischief like they feel we cause from The Philippines and Japan.

2018-10-28 06:04:23 UTC

The veto goes both ways

2018-10-28 06:04:57 UTC

US has to maintain superiority in the hemisphere and the world

2018-10-28 06:05:17 UTC

taking care of those nations amounts to cash and training, anything beyond that is "imperialism"

2018-10-28 06:05:36 UTC

Problem is no one else wants us to

2018-10-28 06:05:42 UTC

Humanitarian aid is imperialism?

2018-10-28 06:05:59 UTC

Honduras is still suffering from some nasty hurricanes in years past

2018-10-28 06:06:04 UTC

As ive had it explained to me yes

2018-10-28 06:06:15 UTC

It's a mess and the source of most of that caravan that has everyone's undies in a bunch

2018-10-28 06:06:26 UTC

Apparently its making the dependent on and subservient to whatever nation provides the aid

2018-10-28 06:06:37 UTC

Yes, I hear that from the left

2018-10-28 06:06:50 UTC

I actually am somewhat sympathetic to it

2018-10-28 06:06:55 UTC

But it's still the wrong way to look at it

2018-10-28 06:07:18 UTC

The idea is we want to teach a man to fish rather than give him a fish

2018-10-28 06:07:25 UTC

That sounds great

2018-10-28 06:07:51 UTC

Why would they fish in their pond when they can go a hundred miles to fish in someone elses pond and send the fish back home?

2018-10-28 06:08:01 UTC

But if China is willing to give the man a fish and the man reciprocates by offering his home up, I'd rather be the one giving the fishes

2018-10-28 06:08:07 UTC

But it shouldn't mean that we cut off aid just because we may seem to appear imperialistic

2018-10-28 06:08:19 UTC

No we shouldnt cut off the aid

2018-10-28 06:08:59 UTC

The mindset of the left is that anything the US does in terms of action abroad is imperialistic

2018-10-28 06:09:02 UTC

I'm a bleeding heart but I make love to Henry Kissinger when it comes to geopolitical realism

2018-10-28 06:09:22 UTC

And yes, that *should* be a scary image :p

2018-10-28 06:09:53 UTC

No, foreign aid is stupid. Our government shouldn't be giving away our resources. Private individuals and interest groups sure. But not our government imo.

2018-10-28 06:10:15 UTC

>finger guns
im fiscally conservative and socially liberal youve never debated someone like me

2018-10-28 06:10:28 UTC

Billions for defense but not one cent for goodwill, eh?

2018-10-28 06:10:35 UTC

Someone will give the aid

2018-10-28 06:10:40 UTC

Might as well be us

2018-10-28 06:10:56 UTC

No matter where you go, money equals power

2018-10-28 06:10:57 UTC

Hey *highfives @Blackhawk342 *

2018-10-28 06:11:01 UTC

You and me both

2018-10-28 06:11:03 UTC

eyyyyy

2018-10-28 06:11:16 UTC

It doesn't look good on us if we suddenly drop the ball

2018-10-28 06:11:23 UTC

Plus the chinese have a bad habit of making their aid come in the form of infastructure projects

2018-10-28 06:11:41 UTC

I know. They make countries dependent on them for maintenance and more toys.

2018-10-28 06:11:47 UTC

It's like geopolitical drugs.

2018-10-28 06:11:47 UTC

Good will should not be forced on our citizens to foreign ones @DrYuriMom

2018-10-28 06:11:48 UTC

And that is even if the project is ever completed

2018-10-28 06:11:49 UTC

Where they bring in chinese contractors to do the work
and the chinese government gives the nation a loan so they can pay for the projects
