There was this elderly veteran who was shaking and skinny... who looked like he is homeless and living in his truck.

I wanted to help him, but I didn't have enough money to help. He needed 55 dollars, but all I had was 2 dollars and some change.

Ugh I wish I had money to spare...

I would have bought him that phone card he was trying to get.

Maybe he could have used that phone call to call a family member.

Poor guy was shaking, look like he didn't have a bath in days, and was frail.

One thing I always keep in my mind when interacting with the homeless, or even just the vulnerable on the street, is that the majority of the time, even if you cant help with money, dont make it all about that, just talk to them as if theyre a human being

I've been in the situation where I've had nothing on me to help with monetarily. So I give them some of the time of my day, ask them about themselves, and listen

I always believed that as a community, we should take care of our veterans.

They done so much for us by protecting us from war.

Make sure our veterans are took care of and then our homeless.

Well yes, it's a shame how many of our homeless are veterans who were probably from low income families and ignored before their service as much as after

I wanted to be a community organizer for that reason only.
