@ryvergate I believe this is partially due to mass migration. It overloads the healthcare sector added that the western ethnic people tend to not have many children. It can be other factors but I haven't fully looked into those.

I have never heard of hospitals getting filled to overcrowding over the common flu

in fairness people who die from the flu dont go to the hospital in the first place

The symptons for most people are mild I believe the issue lies more on how fast corona has been capable of spreading causing like in that article hospitals becoming overloaded and more frequent vulnerable people being targeted thus killing more.
