Damnit Exiled

2018-11-02 20:28:12 UTC

I was considering reposting that too

2018-11-02 20:28:22 UTC

GREAT MINDS

2018-11-02 20:28:44 UTC

`The stream in question was hours of Holocaust denial and the donations were routed to St. Jude`

2018-11-02 20:29:03 UTC

It was just ONE hour of a holocoaster argument between AiU and Harmful

2018-11-02 20:29:16 UTC

Then the holocoaster jokes lasted all night

2018-11-02 20:29:19 UTC

someone in situation i was trying to give example of (neurotic, lacking guidance in early life ) doesnt gives a shit about control once they've got it if they don't know what it stands for, you just get more depressed while appearing to be more under control to the outward world. sorry if this is graining im just trying to express from different personality type why its important to touch on the concepts as different things and not assume having simply discipline in check will lead to everything working out

2018-11-02 20:29:50 UTC

also discipline isn't supposed to prevent unhappiness,

Its literally a method to maintain control of your own impulses so that you won't let things get out of hand

2018-11-02 20:30:13 UTC

discipline is wanting cake really badly, but end up not eating it cuz you don't wanna get fat 😄

2018-11-02 20:30:48 UTC

reeee im not anti discipline reeee, im just saying if this is a recipe its like salt, you can't just cook anything with lots of salt and pretend it will come out good all the other bits matter

2018-11-02 20:31:05 UTC

haha so

2018-11-02 20:31:08 UTC

and the outcome of the other action, I.E. being fat, would end up making such a person unhappy. while discipline runs counter to short term happiness, it helps prevent long term unhappiness

2018-11-02 20:31:13 UTC

everyone saw the Alec Baldwin thing right

2018-11-02 20:31:15 UTC

Baldwin then followed the man to the Muni-meter and punched him, police said. The driver was taken to Lenox Hill hospital.

2018-11-02 20:31:23 UTC

this is the funniest part

2018-11-02 20:31:23 UTC

Both cars involved in the dispute got parking tickets for not paying the meter.

2018-11-02 20:31:30 UTC

however their must also be a drive, or a motive, to find happiness in the action you took

2018-11-02 20:31:49 UTC

eating 1 bit of cake wont ruin you though

2018-11-02 20:31:53 UTC

@Dr.Wol i like it when people ask these question because it shows you they want to learn more or talk about it to make more sense of things

2018-11-02 20:32:00 UTC

@Dr.Wol so thinking long term prevents you from acting on mindless whims

2018-11-02 20:32:20 UTC

you guys are fun 💟

2018-11-02 20:32:27 UTC

i am very jetlagged ngl

2018-11-02 20:32:29 UTC

you also cant reason anything with the philosophical ideas im preaching

2018-11-02 20:32:50 UTC

And you are right Otto, discipline isn't the all-end-all

But it creates a good ground for having stability, and you can build on a stable foundation

2018-11-02 20:32:53 UTC

wol thats where moderation comes into play, drinking one beer wont make me an alcoholic but downing half a bottle of whisky each weekend because of lack of self-control and discipline very much could

2018-11-02 20:33:08 UTC

also, ttv, you surely followed the culture of the west for a while

2018-11-02 20:33:20 UTC

also what do you mean discipline

2018-11-02 20:33:30 UTC

discipline is simply the understanding of self-control and the ability to avoid long term unhappinesses

2018-11-02 20:33:35 UTC

can you honestly say, people can't reason anything? after everything we've seen the last 2 years? 😉

2018-11-02 20:33:44 UTC

@Yugure you can do that with ideas

2018-11-02 20:33:56 UTC

which is the only way to do that actually

2018-11-02 20:34:08 UTC

Definition of discipline (Entry 1 of 2)
1a : control gained by enforcing obedience or order

2018-11-02 20:34:11 UTC

western gobernment, but in regards to child rearing i wish we could sap some of that eastern discipline 👅

2018-11-02 20:34:17 UTC

b : orderly or prescribed conduct or pattern of behavior
c : SELF-CONTROL

2018-11-02 20:34:33 UTC

Eastern Discipline? like the middle-east? 😉

2018-11-02 20:34:40 UTC

@Ottobon they do for lack of philosophy

2018-11-02 20:34:41 UTC

kill people who don't listen?

2018-11-02 20:34:57 UTC

thats what mental tools such as discipline, self control, etc. are, ideas. they are mental trainings and ideas we use to help make decisions in life

2018-11-02 20:35:08 UTC

like how tf all my asian friends parents force their kids to do 3 hours of side homework each night, as a whitey white boy i dono how one establishes that much control without makign their kids psychos
