I'd argue that the team behind Total Annihilation have a big share of responsibility for the genre.
ahh the warsaw pact https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xngKi0jFVBs
@svarozhyc Did you ever try out the TA team's latest installment PLANETARY Annihilation? 😉
Pretty fucking insane as far as RTS games go.

nope lesseee
never played the TA games
oh shiet that looks noice
What the TA/PA series is notorious for is the complete absence of a unit cap.
Basicallu you can field as many units as each players computer and bandwidth can handle. 😁
👌
member cossacks had the same lol
Wait for the last 20 seconds of the video. It's orgasmic <:ahegon:566797166258028548>
I'm playing this populace throwback right now- pretty addictive, simple yet not so bad https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aI-PIgPGR_k
or the cap was too high for me to have reached on my system back in the day
but i had 1000s of units
oh no death star
haha the trailer leaves me with one crucial question: how does that work in gameplay
games with death stars
i member empire earth blew me away when i first saw the trailers 😛
but then it was more age of empires lol
and emperor battle for dune looked amazing throughout but was simplified to the level of -no detail-
😛
That game was fantastic
then they made the abortion that was 3
Spent a summer playing it, not very well
oh that looks aight red
That Citizen Kabuto game- anyone play that?
@svarozhyc Oh it all works. And yes, you can strap giant rocket engines to smaller moons and essentialy turn the moon into a giant projictile, flinging it straight into an enemy held planet to destroy it.
It's also possible to build death star lasers to annihilate planets with. 🤣
i loved the idea of populus but when i played it, it was a bit too dunno linear
it's always happened with the molyneux tard
@svarozhyc oh yeah, populace is a fairly dumb game, if you can call it a game even
requires about as much thought as solitaire
which is fine
yeah, just a chill thing
been looking for a game actually imma obtain this one
@svarozhyc The game works essentially as most isometric RTS games.
You use the scroll wheel of your mouse to zoom in and out, and a separare button to cycle between planetary bodies. Zooming out far enough from the planet surface will make your units appear as icons since they're too small to be visible that far out.
This also let you see the "orbital" layer where you build units and structures in orbit.
ah i see that's pretty cool
@Mentrex how tf did they get away with the Japanese faction as well, the game was just so funny
i'll have a look at it too.
yeah i donno
