2020-03-06 09:58:55 UTC

It's complicated

2020-03-06 09:59:08 UTC

I'll explain once I finish writing it up

2020-03-06 09:59:22 UTC

cool <:tiptip:462282246695419934>

2020-03-06 09:59:26 UTC

@Telly_G 『⚡130』PC | Hank Hill approves

2020-03-06 09:59:35 UTC

what what

2020-03-06 10:00:18 UTC

ohhhh

2020-03-06 10:00:34 UTC

yeah the pathfinding was legendarily fuccd

2020-03-06 10:00:54 UTC

in westwood games

2020-03-06 10:01:17 UTC

the gameplay was to control the units around efficiently 😛

2020-03-06 10:01:40 UTC

whilst theyd be figuring out which one should move for the other to pass through

2020-03-06 10:02:16 UTC

many hours lost in red alert 2

2020-03-06 10:02:17 UTC

i realise it's a massive challenge and the games were very playable and enjoyable with their solutions

2020-03-06 10:02:18 UTC

@svarozhyc Yup. The pathfinding wasn't perfect.
But even getting the pathfinding up to that level was quite difficult back then.

They had to do a lot of things completely from scratch. There were no reference to take ideas from.

2020-03-06 10:02:43 UTC

yeah they pretty much made the genre

2020-03-06 10:02:46 UTC

westwood and blizz

2020-03-06 10:03:26 UTC

damn EA

2020-03-06 10:03:35 UTC

and blizz having a midlife crisis lol

2020-03-06 10:03:36 UTC

I'd argue that the team behind Total Annihilation have a big share of responsibility for the genre.

2020-03-06 10:03:51 UTC
2020-03-06 10:05:17 UTC

@svarozhyc Did you ever try out the TA team's latest installment PLANETARY Annihilation? 😉

Pretty fucking insane as far as RTS games go.

2020-03-06 10:05:32 UTC

nope lesseee

2020-03-06 10:05:41 UTC

never played the TA games

2020-03-06 10:06:09 UTC

oh shiet that looks noice

2020-03-06 10:06:40 UTC

What the TA/PA series is notorious for is the complete absence of a unit cap.

Basicallu you can field as many units as each players computer and bandwidth can handle. 😁

2020-03-06 10:06:50 UTC

👌

2020-03-06 10:06:56 UTC

member cossacks had the same lol

2020-03-06 10:07:08 UTC

Wait for the last 20 seconds of the video. It's orgasmic <:ahegon:566797166258028548>

2020-03-06 10:07:09 UTC

I'm playing this populace throwback right now- pretty addictive, simple yet not so bad https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aI-PIgPGR_k

2020-03-06 10:07:14 UTC

or the cap was too high for me to have reached on my system back in the day

2020-03-06 10:07:18 UTC

but i had 1000s of units

2020-03-06 10:07:50 UTC

oh no death star

2020-03-06 10:08:12 UTC

haha the trailer leaves me with one crucial question: how does that work in gameplay

2020-03-06 10:08:14 UTC

games with death stars

2020-03-06 10:08:45 UTC

i member empire earth blew me away when i first saw the trailers 😛

2020-03-06 10:08:52 UTC

but then it was more age of empires lol

2020-03-06 10:09:07 UTC

@Mentrex I love how you can see him trying not to laugh

2020-03-06 10:09:27 UTC
