I'm playing this populace throwback right now- pretty addictive, simple yet not so bad https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aI-PIgPGR_k

2020-03-06 10:07:14 UTC

or the cap was too high for me to have reached on my system back in the day

2020-03-06 10:07:18 UTC

but i had 1000s of units

2020-03-06 10:07:50 UTC

oh no death star

2020-03-06 10:08:12 UTC

haha the trailer leaves me with one crucial question: how does that work in gameplay

2020-03-06 10:08:14 UTC

games with death stars

2020-03-06 10:08:45 UTC

i member empire earth blew me away when i first saw the trailers 😛

2020-03-06 10:08:52 UTC

but then it was more age of empires lol

2020-03-06 10:09:07 UTC

@Mentrex I love how you can see him trying not to laugh

2020-03-06 10:09:27 UTC

and emperor battle for dune looked amazing throughout but was simplified to the level of -no detail-

2020-03-06 10:09:30 UTC

😛

2020-03-06 10:09:37 UTC

@JackH670 i know right lol

2020-03-06 10:09:56 UTC

That game was fantastic

2020-03-06 10:10:11 UTC

then they made the abortion that was 3

2020-03-06 10:10:13 UTC

Spent a summer playing it, not very well

2020-03-06 10:10:26 UTC

oh that looks aight red

2020-03-06 10:10:48 UTC

That Citizen Kabuto game- anyone play that?

2020-03-06 10:10:48 UTC

@svarozhyc Oh it all works. And yes, you can strap giant rocket engines to smaller moons and essentialy turn the moon into a giant projictile, flinging it straight into an enemy held planet to destroy it.

It's also possible to build death star lasers to annihilate planets with. 🤣

2020-03-06 10:10:50 UTC

i loved the idea of populus but when i played it, it was a bit too dunno linear

2020-03-06 10:11:04 UTC

it's always happened with the molyneux tard

2020-03-06 10:11:15 UTC

@svarozhyc oh yeah, populace is a fairly dumb game, if you can call it a game even

2020-03-06 10:11:41 UTC

requires about as much thought as solitaire

2020-03-06 10:11:56 UTC

which is fine

2020-03-06 10:12:06 UTC

yeah, just a chill thing

2020-03-06 10:12:45 UTC

been looking for a game actually imma obtain this one

2020-03-06 10:12:47 UTC

@svarozhyc The game works essentially as most isometric RTS games.

You use the scroll wheel of your mouse to zoom in and out, and a separare button to cycle between planetary bodies. Zooming out far enough from the planet surface will make your units appear as icons since they're too small to be visible that far out.

This also let you see the "orbital" layer where you build units and structures in orbit.

2020-03-06 10:13:11 UTC

ah i see that's pretty cool

2020-03-06 10:13:28 UTC

@Mentrex how tf did they get away with the Japanese faction as well, the game was just so funny

2020-03-06 10:13:29 UTC

i'll have a look at it too.

2020-03-06 10:13:40 UTC

yeah i donno

2020-03-06 10:13:43 UTC

i notice the trend is to combine grand with ground strategy

2020-03-06 10:13:52 UTC

some one made a choice and it was a bad one

2020-03-06 10:14:02 UTC

i dislike it 😛 although i realise it was always the holy grail lol

2020-03-06 10:14:13 UTC

@svarozhyc Make sure the Titans expansion is with it. Because it fixes a lot of issues with the vanilla, and also adds a lot of units (like the Titans... Duh)

2020-03-06 10:14:24 UTC

Nah I liked the japan faction

2020-03-06 10:14:54 UTC

Also enjoyed the fact that each faction had some unnaturally hot woman in the army for some reason

2020-03-06 10:15:16 UTC

RA 3 was on my disk for 15 mins and i had to tear the hdd down to atoms after witnessing the game

2020-03-06 10:15:27 UTC

In my view, RTS is rarely strategic at all. Most of it takes place in the tactical levels of battle.

The Total War series would be an example of an actual STRATEGY game, whereas Starcraft is a completely Tactical game.

2020-03-06 10:15:48 UTC

sounds about right yes

2020-03-06 10:16:01 UTC

We all know you have time to do your hair in a battlefield
