In a pure market sense, it's attempting to remove the redistribution

2018-11-23 00:17:07 UTC

You take 10 bucks from me for no reason, so I take it back.

You are telling buyers to pay more for a product because it's deemed socially beneficial to raise the prices to help domestic producers. That's still a distortion.

2018-11-23 00:17:22 UTC

It's odd.

2018-11-23 00:17:39 UTC

It's a distortion that levels out an existing distortion

2018-11-23 00:17:52 UTC

But the people who pay the tarriffs are Americans.

2018-11-23 00:18:13 UTC

and the people hurt by the other countries tarriffs are Americans...

2018-11-23 00:18:23 UTC

You may like the distortion, but it's still playing favorites with tax policy.

2018-11-23 00:18:38 UTC

I feel like we're going in circles here

2018-11-23 00:19:01 UTC

We have an agreement. Every year we trade eggs for cheese at a 1:1 weight ratio

2018-11-23 00:19:02 UTC

I'm just saying let's consider distorting the market in favor of human beings over robots.

2018-11-23 00:19:14 UTC

In circles pfft

2018-11-23 00:19:21 UTC

We are, since it's still arguable that the tariffs are bad anyway, and will cause problems if used as a long term solution.

2018-11-23 00:19:32 UTC

One year I tell you Im going to favour cheese, so that we're now trading at a 1.1:1 ratio in my favour

2018-11-23 00:19:37 UTC

Agreed

2018-11-23 00:19:42 UTC

So then you decide to raise your end to match

2018-11-23 00:19:50 UTC

Which is why taxing robot owners can cause the same kind of problems.

2018-11-23 00:19:51 UTC

We've returned to 1:1

2018-11-23 00:20:05 UTC

The sum total is now higher, the cost is higher

2018-11-23 00:20:15 UTC

But all you did was match my bias

2018-11-23 00:20:31 UTC

Also, is wealth static in a system?

2018-11-23 00:20:57 UTC

Happy thanksgiving

2018-11-23 00:21:04 UTC

Happy Thanksgiving

2018-11-23 00:21:09 UTC

But you're still causing additional distortion which punishes some consumers in your country. What if I don't eat eggs? Or cheese? I'm not sure which is local and which an import in your example.

2018-11-23 00:21:10 UTC

Gobble

2018-11-23 00:21:36 UTC

๐Ÿฆƒ

2018-11-23 00:21:53 UTC

a smaller distortion though

2018-11-23 00:21:59 UTC

It's not that Canada doesn't consume cheese and has too many eggs

2018-11-23 00:22:12 UTC

It's that Canada is playing Cheese favourites and expecting the US to put up with it

2018-11-23 00:22:12 UTC

Thank you everyone for keeping me awake through my tryptophan coma :-)

2018-11-23 00:22:20 UTC

what if you can't tax the robots?

2018-11-23 00:22:29 UTC

say by production being outside of your jurisdiction?

2018-11-23 00:22:33 UTC

Why is that something to be kept away from?

2018-11-23 00:22:39 UTC

You tax their fuel and power

2018-11-23 00:22:44 UTC

what if you can't?

2018-11-23 00:22:46 UTC

Embrace the food coma

2018-11-23 00:22:49 UTC

Canโ€™t have robots without a way to make them run

2018-11-23 00:23:02 UTC

what if you create oil platforms that both produce and dig oil for fuel? ๐Ÿ˜›

2018-11-23 00:23:05 UTC

on international waters

2018-11-23 00:23:10 UTC

The cheese favouritism actually hurts Canadians too. It's a non competitive system within the country
