I have always disliked the inversion of beauty and ugliness and depressive/angsty feeling that black metal puts in the listener. That's why I prefer his Fallen album, it manages for the most part to avoid that, and keep to a more "uplifting" theme

Kind of makes it an anomaly, but definitely something black metal could learn a thing or two from

At this point, his discography is classic listening. It's a fairly common staple of the blackest of metals, and far better than Mayhem ever got. They forced the whole Satan thing too much, where Burzum mostly just kept it anti-Christian with the whole "pagan" theme going on, but it's all representation.
