Georgia really is my ancestral place for both sides of my family, we have lived here as far as I can go back.

I have seen pictures of my direct ancestors.

Skinny, poor, ragged clothes, working as share croppers in the post-civil war south.

All my Civil War ancestors I can find, all served in Georgia state units.

The Navy and Marines were Nationalised troops, but alot of Infantry and Cavalry were state specific.

3 served in professional units, 2 served in Militia Unit's

Remember, Confederate's were granted veterans rights, their widows and children received pension pay years after their service and their graves are technically veterans graves.

I cant remember the exact year the government recognized those who fought for the Confederacy as American veterans.

Also, all Confederate's were pardoned, and a section of Arlington national cemetery is reserved for Confederate troops.

This was all done in the 50's though.

Also, the 1906 Foraker law, which granted Confederate graves and graveyards to be cared for and maintained with federal funding, And, for them to be marked.
