By your theory, US should still be living under prohibition.

2018-11-29 00:34:01 UTC

The point is, your feelings on a law or your thoughts on its legitimacy in no way affect the actual legitimacy of a law.

2018-11-29 00:34:19 UTC

Just because a law is wrong doesn’t mean that you can’t expect consequences for breaking it. Wrong laws can be changed and generally there is a system for doing so.

2018-11-29 00:35:22 UTC

and in general bad laws are more a symptom of a deeper societal issue or rot that can be addressed within the society by fixing the issue at the root cause

2018-11-29 00:35:27 UTC

Sure. That works in reverse though to, it means laws are amoral, they are not wrong or right.

2018-11-29 00:35:58 UTC

So, a person is not a wrongdoer for breaking one, they are just a criminal

2018-11-29 00:36:39 UTC

Fair enough.

2018-11-29 00:37:05 UTC

Basically what I meant with different wording.

2018-11-29 00:37:17 UTC

I think wording is important.

2018-11-29 00:37:44 UTC

Sure is.

2018-11-29 00:37:45 UTC

Or at least, what was meant.

2018-11-29 00:37:51 UTC

Conveyed intent is more important than wording

2018-11-29 00:38:11 UTC

as long as the person you're talking to knows what you're saying, the actual words used to convey it are unimportant

2018-11-29 00:38:27 UTC

Kinda just said that, before you did...

2018-11-29 00:38:34 UTC

And I was curious if his morality was tied to law.

2018-11-29 00:38:46 UTC

Seems it wasn't, so, cleared that up

2018-11-29 00:39:11 UTC

Now, where's my damn cookie!?!?!

2018-11-29 00:39:20 UTC

You don't get any cookies

2018-11-29 00:39:28 UTC

@Dvir , regarding your discussion earlier about Abrahamic religions, Christianity absorbed a bunch of paganism, too. Witness the current season with Christmas Trees which are pagan. Also, Jesus was not born on Dec 25th if you dig at all into the new testament, rather his BD was moved to the winter solstice so that he could be the "light of the world" on the shortest day of the year and one that was celebrated by many pagan sects. Note that I am a Christian and am not defending Islam per se, but to point out the pagan roots of Islam and not recognize how deeply pagan traditions have been absorbed into Christianity seems a little one-sided.

2018-11-29 01:07:17 UTC

Oh I know that Christianity isn't free of paganism

2018-11-29 01:07:37 UTC

Judaism after all was likely an offshoot of Mesopotamian Polytheism

2018-11-29 01:07:49 UTC

With perhaps Baal being one of the earliest iterations of YHWH

2018-11-29 01:08:27 UTC

@Atkins stole like 70 million in donations from other states, to pad his bank account after a failure of a texas campaign, that he refuses to share back with the democrats who gave it to him (or it)?

2018-11-29 01:08:28 UTC

I make a note of this because what you mention is largely supplementary aspects of Christianity rather than fundamental aspects of its tenents

2018-11-29 01:09:10 UTC

While Islam loudly declares itself the true monotheistic religion free of paganistic beliefs while praying down to a giant granite cube five times a day.
