United States is basically ONE BIG experiment that succeed beyond our imagination and now that experiment is threaten by going down the path of pure democracy without any constitution or bill of rights to protect us. Our representatives have tried, on both sides, to subvert the constitution to achieve their aims.

I wouldn't say were at risk of too much democracy at the moment. I think we're more at risk of oligarchy from people in places like tech companies.

China has freedom of speech and elections. You just aren't allowed to ask questions or make discussions that "threaten the safety and harmony of society and the state" and your election choices are rather narrow.
