what is the left? what is the right? last time I asked that question it was framed by the word 'progressive', which is equally meaningless on its own ;P

left is the people who want "the greater good", centralised government control, regulation and believe Collective > individual

the right is the people who want self-determination, small government and believe Individual > collective
and free market

and the authoritarian/libertarian axis is for the two group-ish things:
- You do what we say or else

and

- We aughta have <side>, i think that'd be nice

sounds like you dont understand that there are multiple forms of Monarchy and only accept a single and outdated (by about 400 years) concept of direct rule (whether framed in the terms divine or outright naked force)

Right, except monarchical philosophies of governance do not recognize the will of the governed as the source of their authority.

Rather, the authority of government flows *from* them.
