Rather it is LGBT, any race, any religion, or any political stance; I want them to matter and have their own stories.
It is though
many people conflate neurology, psychiatry and psychology though.
Only psychology is mental
Oh all right you're using a more specific terminology
Why can't we have those background plots, that really don't take the main focus of the story, but are there if you pay attention?
@Dusty MorganFun fact, there's a trans character in Alien
you're conflating psychiatry with a field of scientific study
Didn't know that Abel.
Lambert was trans
personally, I don't notice token characters (other people always have to point them out for me to see it) because all I want is a well develop character with their own issues and how they overcome them
I was told by my writing class in high school. Just relying on a single plot, you are just putting your eggs all in one basket.
And it didn't matter because she was treated as a normal character with her own faults, ambition, and character
Some people might not be invested in the main story, but they might be invested in a character's story.
(also didn't matter because she was alien fodder)
That is why it is a good idea to have a plot for all the characters, their own stories and struggles.
Alien was pretty progressive for its time, but it didn't ram it down your throat, they just made a good movie.
sometimes multiple plots become too much. Not everyone will realize what is going on until the very end, if they ever realize it
Hell look at star trek
That is why I actually... loved Dr. Who when I first started watching.
The sub-plots.
you also run the chance of making the original plot line flat and boring
People don't care about whether a movie is progressive or conservative, they care whether it's good and interesting
Exactly Abel.
Or dependent on forcing ideology down your throat with half baked token characters like the new She Ra
if a story is well written, the sub-plots tie into the main-plot without anyone really noticing
My trans friend does not like the new She Ra
A post-op MtF
Did she explain why?
I am interested in her or his opinion.
"that new She-Ra looks like crap, they made her look like a boy."
Her exact words
That is it.... nothing about the character's personality or plot?
By the way, i dont agree with people saying the season of doctor who prior to thechick was progressive at all. quite the opposite, quite conservative. Yes, social justice showed up, it was made fun of in many cases
Nevermind.
in one episode they even had AI programmed to keep people happy killing people that are unhappy
season 9 and 10 were very in your face
with SJW shit
go back and watch them again
it was in your face but not in a supportive way
