@ThreeOfOne I agree

2019-01-26 18:41:53 UTC

I only take evolutionary psychology seriously

2019-01-26 18:41:54 UTC

Out of curiosity, has anyone here actually been in a psychiatric ward?

2019-01-26 18:42:13 UTC
2019-01-26 18:42:18 UTC

Evolutionary psychology is pseudoscience, too.

2019-01-26 18:42:21 UTC

nope I haven't

2019-01-26 18:42:22 UTC

I tell u cause most of my colleagues joke about them all the time

2019-01-26 18:42:24 UTC

I have.

2019-01-26 18:42:35 UTC

Really for what reason

2019-01-26 18:42:43 UTC

he's a patient

2019-01-26 18:42:55 UTC

I have also

2019-01-26 18:42:57 UTC

I spent a week in one about four years ago. Checked myself in because I was at the lowest point I had ever been in my life.

2019-01-26 18:43:03 UTC

But as a doctor

2019-01-26 18:43:10 UTC

Straight up, it helped. A lot.

2019-01-26 18:43:23 UTC

@devpav I think if you're not looking at human psychology through the context of evolution then you're never going to come to any meaningful conclusions on anything

2019-01-26 18:43:36 UTC

I needed to take some samples for a patient that was suffering from hepatitis

2019-01-26 18:43:40 UTC

Well I went to a psychiatrist but never at a psychiatric ward

2019-01-26 18:43:41 UTC

*Psychiatry* is hard science. Psychology is pseudoscience.

2019-01-26 18:43:46 UTC

I don't know how much it helped the others that were in with me, but I know for a lot of them it wasn't their first visit.

2019-01-26 18:43:53 UTC

Poor guy was yellow as a banana

2019-01-26 18:44:23 UTC

Obamanana

2019-01-26 18:44:27 UTC

Simpsons character yellow?

2019-01-26 18:44:38 UTC

A little less but almost

2019-01-26 18:44:38 UTC

I do view human behavior in the context of evolutionary biology, but evolutionary psychology is rife with nonsensical just-so stories.

The antidepressants they gave me didn't really do what they were supposed to, still working on those, but how they taught me to cope with stress still helps.

2019-01-26 18:45:13 UTC

I think evolutionary psychology have it's merits

2019-01-26 18:45:17 UTC

I've had my interactions with psychotherapists and psychiatrists though, neither has helped me much because it doesn't seem like the field of psychology knows how to help men

2019-01-26 18:45:17 UTC

@mikeflarkin people not to talk about their problems that’s the only healthy way to get rid of them

2019-01-26 18:45:43 UTC

Heck most psychology do, the problem was when they declared everything a social construct

2019-01-26 18:45:46 UTC

My father took antidepressants and they also didn’t help

2019-01-26 18:45:51 UTC

Antidepressants work differently on different people. Exercise is the best consistent thing across all stripes

2019-01-26 18:45:52 UTC

@Montgomereeeee that was a big part of it, but the basic yoga and breathing exercise helps too.

2019-01-26 18:45:58 UTC

It actually got better when he stopped

2019-01-26 18:46:02 UTC

The only merit I see in evolutionary psychology is collapsing the pre-scientific bifurcation of physical and mental.

2019-01-26 18:46:20 UTC

my therapist treats me like a broken woman and gives me exercises that I just end up not following because I'm not really inclined to, you could say that's my fault as well

2019-01-26 18:46:31 UTC

I already know I'm not going to be on antidepressants for the rest of my life though.

2019-01-26 18:46:39 UTC

I would put it as a friend told me

2019-01-26 18:46:39 UTC

also, I'm a guy

2019-01-26 18:46:54 UTC

in regards of tims video.. i guess japanese laws that demand sterilization to change gender weren't as bad solution ;D
