But there is actual a body of research that is pretty well established.

2019-01-30 23:45:50 UTC

@Undead Mockingbird no, there isnt.

2019-01-30 23:45:59 UTC

Challenge accepted.

2019-01-30 23:46:03 UTC

Using annedotal evidence though.

2019-01-30 23:46:07 UTC

I highly doubt people don't have an inner dialogue it would make them pretty much non-functional methinks

2019-01-30 23:46:29 UTC

But how do you "measure" inner dialogue @Redneo

2019-01-30 23:46:32 UTC

Maybe those kids who grew up abused, or without parents in the forest

2019-01-30 23:46:57 UTC

Wait wait

2019-01-30 23:46:58 UTC

@stedly they had people write reports of their life in regular intervals. Some people didnt describe any inner dialouge, thats all

2019-01-30 23:47:10 UTC

at that specific time where they were writing it down

2019-01-30 23:47:12 UTC

There are people that cannot have inner dialogue with themselves?

2019-01-30 23:47:17 UTC

its that even possible?

2019-01-30 23:47:36 UTC

@Redneo True, theres no way of for sure telling if they do or don't have inner dialogue. They can claim they do or don't. Brain Scan them maybe?

2019-01-30 23:48:01 UTC

you gotta be joking thats even posible? i mean how?

2019-01-30 23:48:12 UTC

its also not something they were specificly asked about i dont think from what i remember

2019-01-30 23:48:37 UTC

It might be one of those things that actually might be there, but you go to measure it like quantum physics and its not there.

2019-01-30 23:48:56 UTC

just randomly reporting whats going on with them, thad didnt include any inner dialouge for some people

2019-01-30 23:49:19 UTC

Heavey, Christopher L., and Russell T. Hurlburt. "The phenomena of inner experience." Consciousness and cognition 17.3 (2008): 798-810.

2019-01-30 23:49:26 UTC

God i mean there should be explanations for that

2019-01-30 23:49:46 UTC

" We used DES to describe 10 randomly identified moments of inner experience from each of 30 participants selected from a stratified sample of college students. We found that each of the five phenomena occurred in approximately one quarter of sampled moments, that the frequency of these phenomena varied widely across individuals, that there were no significant gender differences in the relative frequencies of these phenomena, and that higher frequencies of inner speech were associated with lower levels of psychological distress."

2019-01-30 23:49:56 UTC

maybe they were distracted or they remembered something or were interested in a wall or a fly or something

2019-01-30 23:50:03 UTC

I mean we can go further into the rabbit hole on inner dialogue, and drag out the MK-Ultra bullshit.

2019-01-30 23:50:08 UTC

I would also argue that Lawrence Kohlberg has commented on similar observations.

2019-01-30 23:50:32 UTC

@stedly LSD? all for that

2019-01-30 23:50:32 UTC

I mean even if its true its genetic right?

2019-01-30 23:50:51 UTC

@Redneo They did a lot more than just LSD.

2019-01-30 23:50:56 UTC

It depends on whether you investigate it from a purely linguistic perspective or from one of moral reflection and inner dialog.

2019-01-30 23:50:56 UTC

(the acronym for LSD btw is german)

2019-01-30 23:51:02 UTC

God if something like that would be real it would be really interesting

2019-01-30 23:51:04 UTC

LisergSäureDiethylamid

2019-01-30 23:51:10 UTC

Säure being german for acid

2019-01-30 23:51:12 UTC

@Strufa I think that video also referenced that they cannot explain the root of their beliefs either, indicating that it wasn't something they created

2019-01-30 23:51:13 UTC

lol

2019-01-30 23:51:22 UTC

been a while since I watched it

2019-01-30 23:51:25 UTC

Well but that i can accept

2019-01-30 23:51:38 UTC

i mean most people just accept things cause it made them feel good
