thats hard to say. IQ for example can still get very fucked by environmental factors
It's often a small thing for people, an insight.
It becomes like a loose thread they pull on.
So its like the inner dialogue thing.
Then, the whole sweater unravels.
It's probably social and genetic. I know a guy who was exposed to berkeley SJW's for so long that he cannot do anything involving politics. His eyes roll back and his brain shuts down
but like everything, i think some people have a greater aptitude for it than others.
If you aren't capable of inner dialogue, might as well be just an animal, fighting for survival.
IQ but in extreme cases is pretty fixed.
but those with less innate abilities for it can most likely be taught enough to greatly increase this ability
@stedly the idea that some people dont have inner dialogue is BS though
It's heritable to p=.80-.85 by adulthood.
The effect size is larger than pretty much anything else we know about psychology.
@Redneo Is it though? I mean I've met people that aren't capable of normal everyday things, without some assistance of others.
I was surprised by the lack of inner dialog.
But there is actual a body of research that is pretty well established.
@Undead Mockingbird no, there isnt.
Challenge accepted.
Using annedotal evidence though.
I highly doubt people don't have an inner dialogue it would make them pretty much non-functional methinks
Maybe those kids who grew up abused, or without parents in the forest
Wait wait
@stedly they had people write reports of their life in regular intervals. Some people didnt describe any inner dialouge, thats all
at that specific time where they were writing it down
There are people that cannot have inner dialogue with themselves?
its that even possible?
@Redneo True, theres no way of for sure telling if they do or don't have inner dialogue. They can claim they do or don't. Brain Scan them maybe?
you gotta be joking thats even posible? i mean how?
its also not something they were specificly asked about i dont think from what i remember
It might be one of those things that actually might be there, but you go to measure it like quantum physics and its not there.
just randomly reporting whats going on with them, thad didnt include any inner dialouge for some people
Heavey, Christopher L., and Russell T. Hurlburt. "The phenomena of inner experience." Consciousness and cognition 17.3 (2008): 798-810.
God i mean there should be explanations for that
" We used DES to describe 10 randomly identified moments of inner experience from each of 30 participants selected from a stratified sample of college students. We found that each of the five phenomena occurred in approximately one quarter of sampled moments, that the frequency of these phenomena varied widely across individuals, that there were no significant gender differences in the relative frequencies of these phenomena, and that higher frequencies of inner speech were associated with lower levels of psychological distress."
maybe they were distracted or they remembered something or were interested in a wall or a fly or something
I mean we can go further into the rabbit hole on inner dialogue, and drag out the MK-Ultra bullshit.

I would also argue that Lawrence Kohlberg has commented on similar observations.
