if you can't buy a slave, you're not in a free market
In law, there is the language of how much a company "controls" of a market share, which can be very misleading.
Internet Providers, ahhh that one. Yeah the right-away legislation is so regulated by each of the states, that its impossible to compete. So yeah regulation did it again.
found the ancap
A company can be the only one in a particular market without having control over it.
you still have to pay those though @Misomania
i want an american slave, not that cheap bootleg stuff
isn't it that if it controls more than 80% of the market its a monopoly?
when there is no other valid choice you have a monopoly
Yes, that is a good observation.
When there are dynamics that keep new companies out of a market, it's usually due to regulations, not for lack of them.
@EndangeredProdigy barely, they don't pay them a fraction of a liveable wage and make them have 8 or 10 room mates in a 2 bedroom subsidized apartment
and when there is a monopoly the free market balance is broken the company can do whatever they want
and since it will not affect their sales
There have been a lot of monopoly laws and anti-trust laws that were completely unnecessary.
since there is no other choice
you broke the free market self-regulation
As soon as one company would break the agreement to charge lower prices, it would dissolve.
the moment when you have sole control of the market, and can influence it without opposition
then you have a monopoly
@Strufa and you cant ever have a monopoly when it comes to the internet. Not without draconian regulations
Those are very unstable constructs.
@Ranko so hire from a prison, they can legally be slaves sold to you
Honestly, how I feel the ISP problem can be fixed, is that they should break them up, and they're only allowed to own lines in a single state.
That is not necessarily true.
if you need billion of dollars of infrastructure to start, you'll never make it
misomania slaves from prison arent as biddable as other kinds
@Strufa cause you can run stuff in a decentralised fashion, thus there is nobody to hold accountable.
since they can be harden criminals
If you raise prices beyond a certain level you can expect a fall in demand.
And it will also make it easier for competition to enter the market.
@Achlys some companies can and do hire slaves from prisons... the old license plate meme
depends the necessity of the product
that doesnt change the fact that a very big company can have a virtual monopoly
So Centurylink for example can only run shit in Louisiana. And all the other state monopolies they have will have to goto other owners/companies.
if they are so big no one will actually pay for a new rising competition
since they suck
People must be tired of me quoting Thomas Sowell at this point, but read Basic Economics.
