2018-12-07 10:59:29 UTC

@coattailsandbowties im out of tutorial now

2018-12-07 10:59:33 UTC

so mobile games didnt exist before 2008

2018-12-07 10:59:38 UTC

thats what youre telling me?

2018-12-07 10:59:42 UTC

Thats the thing the game companies took the piss with lootboxes and they did a piss poor job of regulating themselves.

2018-12-07 10:59:46 UTC

not with this monetization method no

2018-12-07 10:59:47 UTC

no but the concept of microtransactions as we know them didnt

lol

2018-12-07 11:00:01 UTC

mobile games sold premium content outright, fifa did gambling premium content

2018-12-07 11:00:03 UTC

@YeetshirtNinja I mean yeah, chronologically. but in terms of influence I think the first really big mobile MTX heavy game was clash of clans in 2011-2012?

2018-12-07 11:00:04 UTC

(x) doubt

2018-12-07 11:00:06 UTC

card packs were an innovation

2018-12-07 11:00:08 UTC

And then they are going to complain why governments clamp down on them.

2018-12-07 11:00:26 UTC

LOL

2018-12-07 11:00:27 UTC

2018-12-07 11:00:32 UTC

If we're talking about gambling then Fifa did it first

2018-12-07 11:00:33 UTC

nah MTX was massive all the way back online @coattailsandbowties

2018-12-07 11:00:39 UTC

but card packs was FIFA in 2008

2018-12-07 11:00:43 UTC

can you cite a specific example? like the monetisation models between a game like candy crush and EA games post 2008 are wildly different

2018-12-07 11:01:04 UTC

mmo's did it before fifa as well in the gaming market iirc

2018-12-07 11:01:12 UTC

CC only sells extra lives as far as I know, whereas (again, AFAIK) EA p. much created the loot box

2018-12-07 11:01:25 UTC

yeetshirt

2018-12-07 11:01:29 UTC

I mean really games like the sims were the first to capitalise on the whole "pay for extra content in the same game" kinda thing, as far as I'm aware. MMOs might have gotten there sooner but I don't know too much about them.

2018-12-07 11:01:30 UTC

all these people saying you're wrong

2018-12-07 11:01:32 UTC

which is now in every single one of their games and in most other AAA games

2018-12-07 11:01:32 UTC

but no my dude

2018-12-07 11:01:35 UTC

im still the dribbler right

2018-12-07 11:01:38 UTC

2018-12-07 11:01:39 UTC

:D

2018-12-07 11:01:39 UTC

you are

2018-12-07 11:01:40 UTC

MTX used a different model before card packs, card packs are what's boomed the most in MTX

2018-12-07 11:01:42 UTC

Tbh most f2p games are better than ea games

2018-12-07 11:01:49 UTC

csgo is a f2p game now

2018-12-07 11:01:55 UTC

but then again its csgo

2018-12-07 11:02:01 UTC

before card packs MTX made most of its money from whales, players who spent massive amounts on everything compared to the average

2018-12-07 11:02:04 UTC

csgo is alrigth

2018-12-07 11:02:08 UTC

pirate

2018-12-07 11:02:08 UTC

card packs still make a ton of money from whales
