2018-12-22 08:23:56 UTC

my grandfather almost died from an od yesterday, why do elder homes hand out morphine like it's candy---

2018-12-22 08:25:34 UTC

Because they're paid to clean up shitty beds and feed old people, they're not paid to give a fuck. Compassion fatigue is rough.

2018-12-22 08:26:44 UTC

then what are we paying them for ?

2018-12-22 08:27:27 UTC

True Story: David Hasselhoff did a cover of Country Roads

2018-12-22 08:27:48 UTC

@Dead the morphine

2018-12-22 08:28:55 UTC

@Dead literally just to make sure they don't die from a broken hip. My grandmother went four days without being fed because when she was in a home they didn't feed her, we'd never set up a 'meal plan'. So they just didn't feed her. Once we took her out and just did it ourselves it was fine, but you're literally only paying to make sure your elders don't die on the floor.

2018-12-22 08:29:47 UTC

This happened in America mind you, I've no clue about anywhere else.

2018-12-22 08:30:26 UTC

damn dude you think they would make sure you had that sorted

2018-12-22 08:30:48 UTC

Never told us. I warn people to make sure anymore so they don't have to carry that weight

2018-12-22 08:31:07 UTC

that is proper fucked up

2018-12-22 08:31:21 UTC

that sounds pretty messed up @Tewdrig

2018-12-22 08:31:22 UTC

2018-12-22 08:32:32 UTC

I didn't find out until I visited and she was asking me when it was dinner time incessantly so I asked and they were like "lol thought she was palliative care, woops, here's a menu and here's the bill"

2018-12-22 08:33:07 UTC

2018-12-22 08:33:23 UTC

Oy m8

2018-12-22 08:33:34 UTC

Not sure if it was elderly or with special needs patients but it turned out here, in Ireland, a load of carers abused the people they were being paid to take care of within a home.

2018-12-22 08:34:02 UTC

It's pretty fucked up

2018-12-22 08:34:06 UTC

elder abuse is a massive problem tbh

2018-12-22 08:34:12 UTC

^ experienced the same recently... at the hospital.

2018-12-22 08:34:23 UTC

happens way too often, especially with live in nurses

2018-12-22 08:34:59 UTC

tbh i don't mind ruining the lives of people like that.

2018-12-22 08:35:06 UTC
