I believed it did when I was a young spud. If God is merciful and true, purgatory exists.
purgatory is reincarnation
only one of many christianity ties to eastern religions
But i don't believe it exists
@Caballería i don't think he ever said about one able to atone for sins after death
but the bible makes no mention of purgatory or a middle ground between heaven and hell
Protestants hardly even deny purgatory, they just call it judgement. Where you stand in your state of sin before God after death and are judged, yet are not in a state of perfection, so it can't be heaven. It's some sort of intermediate state where God purges you in fire.
```For no other foundation can any one lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any one builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble—each man’s work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.```
@Eoppa the concept of purgatory is irrelevant to salvation so why talk about it
@Ater Votum the question is asking about purgatory, not about salvation
So asking why talk about it because it's not tied to salvation makes no sense
You don't know your BIBLE??????
@Maksim stupid question
@Ater Votum That's your problem, if you don't like it don't answer it, and if you want a better question, then DM me a question you'd like asked
what are you going on about?
Don't just complain, be constructive
Just general decency
I was assigned to write a story, I kind of want to do a story about an eastern orthodox monk, so I can learn more Orthodox philosophy myself.
Not sure what I would write about
@Religion **Daily Question**
Under the United States constitution, churches/religious organisations are exempt from a church tax being imposed by the federal government. Is this acceptable considering the United States is a secular liberal country?
<@&588707615643795456>
In the secular liberal framework no, because a church is like any other business or organization to them
I believe it's acceptable and the logic behind not taxing churches is solid to me
Most churches arent megachurches trying to influence policy
as much as i'm not religious i wouldn't want churches to be taxed
it's difficult as is to run a religion run purely based off of donations
I dont even believe in religion and I respect their right to practice their beliefs
I mean, I don't care if it conflicts with a shitty liberal worldview. Churches should not be taxed.
based pastor
Why do people not want witnesses?
no-one to snitch on ye
Churches add to social cohesion which is worth the lost tax income. At least in principle.
@Kichev It's hard for normal churches to survive as is just off of donations
Exactly, having to not pay taxes lets them survive and function. That function is worthwhile for the government
Donations are usually tax-exempt no?
So why should they be taxed?
It runs off of donations
