we're talking about translating into English and the only reason it was able to be translated into English is because an army was protecting the translators from the Catholic Church

But translating was not very much editing. The really big editing happened when they chose which books to put in the Bible. They removed all kinds of stuff. they didn't add very much they just mostly removed stuff. No question it was edited.

And this happened over thousands of years.

Taking all of those different books and trying to make one book out of it was extreme editing
