2018-12-26 16:16:53 UTC

Anyone here play violin by any chance

2018-12-26 16:17:05 UTC

Knew a girl that did

2018-12-26 16:17:15 UTC

She's actually a druggy by now

2018-12-26 16:17:23 UTC

Eh, got a technical question tho

2018-12-26 16:17:38 UTC

Guess I gotta wait for coattails

2018-12-26 16:17:56 UTC

Is it specific to violin?

2018-12-26 16:18:09 UTC

Yes, more or less.

2018-12-26 16:18:31 UTC

Just switch to guitar

2018-12-26 16:18:48 UTC

I have cousins who are violin players. They probably won't join the discord though

2018-12-26 16:19:01 UTC

I mean I play bass. If anything I'd take up viola

2018-12-26 16:19:02 UTC

I can't believe it's halloween already.

2018-12-26 16:19:32 UTC

Violists are the butt of more jokes than bassists.

2018-12-26 16:19:40 UTC

Yep

2018-12-26 16:19:52 UTC

I prefer the sound of a viola though.

2018-12-26 16:20:05 UTC

Or cello.

2018-12-26 16:20:34 UTC

I reckon cellists are more susceptible to being the butt of a joke

2018-12-26 16:20:34 UTC

I inherited a violin. I would rather play cello though. I should probably get good at guitar first.

2018-12-26 16:21:59 UTC

Basically I wanted to know if natural harmonics exist on violin, like if you were to play one pizzicato, could you get the harmonic tones you would get muting the frets on a bass/guitar etc

2018-12-26 16:22:16 UTC

And if any violinists actually do that

2018-12-26 16:22:55 UTC

Like 9th fret natural harmonics on bass are some of my favorite tones.

2018-12-26 16:23:12 UTC

I'd say you could do that with the violin strings

2018-12-26 16:23:47 UTC

You can do that

2018-12-26 16:24:04 UTC

Its prolly more annoying and without amplification would be quiet

2018-12-26 16:24:21 UTC

Yes you can play natural harmonics on violin.

2018-12-26 16:24:28 UTC

Oh yeah, not too many electric violins out there heh

2018-12-26 16:24:36 UTC

They aren't quiet.

2018-12-26 16:25:03 UTC

Same principle as on a guitar, half the string and you get an octave higher etc.

2018-12-26 16:25:51 UTC

Huh. Watched some dude doing it on cello just now. Not having fret markers makes that look nightmarish.

2018-12-26 16:26:43 UTC

Certainly takes some extra skill, alright.

2018-12-26 16:26:54 UTC

It's just practice.

2018-12-26 16:27:35 UTC

I want a fretless bass. Love how they sound.

2018-12-26 16:29:12 UTC

Yeet

2018-12-26 16:29:31 UTC

well fuck I wish I could let you play my fretless tailed

2018-12-26 16:29:38 UTC

sadly I'm accross the pond
