I used to be believe in conservatism and capitalism when I was a right-winger, but those days are gone

Well, even as a rightist, I was always critical of capitalism from the start

I used to believe in the more reformist sects of capitalism, to ensure that it benefits all and not just the business owner

but I was always discriminated by my fellow brethren for that

as well as the nonsense of some right-wingers made me question my values

plus, I delved more and studied more about socialist thought

the ancient Greeks believed in a type of supernatural creature called a Siren, who had a bird's body and a woman's head

they lived on rocky islands in the Aegean Sea, and sung beautiful songs that lured sailors to their doom

the sailors would be mesmerized by the songs, and forget what direction their ships were going, and eventually the ships would be destroyed on the rocks of the islands the sirens lived on

later depictions of Sirens made them resemble mermaids

they still sang that lethal song and lured men to dash their ships on the rocks, though

in the Odyssey, Ulysses had his crew tie him to the main mast of his ship and plug their ears with beeswax so they could steer the ship safely past the islands of the Sirens, and at the same time, he could listen to their song without consequences

so there are forms of socialism that lure people in, but once they have it, they regret it later

sometimes to their doom

socialism is not based in luring people in, such a system would be unsustainable and have no vitality

it depends on the will of the people whether they want socialism or not.

It “lures people in” in the sense that people want fair compensation for their labor and reliably cheap and accessible healthcare

I know, but it's a reason people want socialism, so that the healthcare system can be socialized

then these people don't know what socialism is, at very best their advocating for social democracy/democratic policies

yes, socialism provides welfare but in modern society its only social democracy which takes a key role in developing these policies
