Well, shutting down the government is a bit of a nuisance but resolving this issue is very important.
if half the government doesn't want it at any cost, you shouldn't shut it down for that, unless it would like save the country or something
but the border wall won't save the country. Most estimations I've seen say it will barely impact illegal immigration
I think most notably because so much of the border is private property so even if you give him funding, people wanting to cross will always find spots

Right, so what I was saying is that setting up fences just makes them go elsewhere. To which you might say well let’s cover the whole border, and we can’t, because good chunks of it are owned by private citizens who may not want to sell (and are even being bought by liberal groups explicitly to not sell). Is it good that San Diego has less immigration now? Sure, it sounds like it was being overwhelmed. But those people just go elsewhere now. I’m not disputing the effectiveness of fences regionally, it’s just a bad strategy for a border as wide and varied as the entire southern border.
