I just said I don’t for things that aren’t court cases

2018-10-20 17:16:44 UTC

Do you believe in presumption of innocence?

2018-10-20 17:16:51 UTC

For American courts yes

2018-10-20 17:17:07 UTC

So presumption of guilt you believe in?

2018-10-20 17:17:11 UTC

No

2018-10-20 17:17:15 UTC

For international matters?

2018-10-20 17:17:18 UTC

It’s not binary

2018-10-20 17:17:44 UTC

Do you believe 100% Saudi Arabia did this? No questioning?

2018-10-20 17:17:48 UTC

For international matters I believe in neither presumption of innocence or guilt

2018-10-20 17:17:51 UTC

Nope

2018-10-20 17:17:56 UTC

Nope to 100

2018-10-20 17:18:01 UTC

Yes to questioning

2018-10-20 17:18:10 UTC

Ok so I think we both agree. Investigate it extremely carefully

2018-10-20 17:18:20 UTC

But you would have to be a fool to not suspect them and impose sanctions until they give us more evidence

2018-10-20 17:18:30 UTC

But they are our ally

2018-10-20 17:18:39 UTC

Who murdered a journalist

2018-10-20 17:18:43 UTC

(Most likely)

2018-10-20 17:18:45 UTC

Not confirmed

2018-10-20 17:18:49 UTC

Ok but cmon

2018-10-20 17:18:52 UTC

And what if they didn’t?

2018-10-20 17:18:56 UTC

95% chance

2018-10-20 17:19:03 UTC

Then their story would be different

2018-10-20 17:19:07 UTC

Then that would be extremely unfair

2018-10-20 17:19:26 UTC

Conservatives believe in trial by evidence and facts. Liberals say if you are smiling you are guilty.

2018-10-20 17:19:37 UTC

Like children on a playground.

2018-10-20 17:19:49 UTC

Ridiculous and reductive

2018-10-20 17:20:36 UTC

Well because conservatives want an investigation

2018-10-20 17:20:41 UTC

Not presumption of guilt

2018-10-20 17:20:57 UTC

Everybody wants an investigation

2018-10-20 17:21:04 UTC

And why not presumption of innocence for international matters?

2018-10-20 17:21:18 UTC

What changed?

2018-10-20 17:21:38 UTC

That never existed

2018-10-20 17:22:08 UTC

But it shows that if given the chance liberals will most likely say they are guilty

2018-10-20 17:22:23 UTC

This is not about the Constitution

2018-10-20 17:22:31 UTC

But it is about morality

2018-10-20 17:22:38 UTC

No, it doesn’t, it shows that people who look at the situation fairly will say: Saudi Arabia probably did it

2018-10-20 17:22:45 UTC

Presumption of innocence is moral in all situations

2018-10-20 17:22:51 UTC

Heck no it isn’t

2018-10-20 17:23:14 UTC

Clarify

2018-10-20 17:23:24 UTC

Let me think of an example

2018-10-20 17:26:55 UTC

Ok as an example of a situation in which conservatives ignored presumption of innocence: the invasion of Iraq because we suspected they had weapons of mass destruction. This isn’t an example of when presumption of innocence is immoral (it was moral in this case) but it is an example of conservatives flip flopping on this issue.
