so if I draw a circle 6371 radius, then draw a vertical line from the 0 degree mark up for 0.27, and then from that point, a tangent line to the circle, the line is 58km

2018-08-10 16:59:07 UTC

so on paper, somehting will only be dissapear from the bottom, after 58km... this is paper, not something with an atmosphere where the desity of light may have an effect

2018-08-10 16:59:39 UTC

yeah basically

2018-08-10 16:59:42 UTC

so just being a 900ft, the curve will be that long, it will not hav much curvture

2018-08-10 16:59:56 UTC

I sent you the dwg if that helps. I downscaled though

2018-08-10 17:00:29 UTC

yea, the above is done in units, and my system is set to mm.... but units is just units

2018-08-10 17:01:19 UTC

ok, will export form solidworks to dwg (but I'm cutting off the excess, cuase 0,27km is like a dot on that big circle

I modelled it in 3d in the DWG i sent, try import that and give us the view form top of the 0.27 line to the horizon

2018-08-10 17:22:26 UTC

I'm in a 3d program, (solidworks) and my dwg will be 3d. (but I found a calculater that confirm my calculation)

https://www.easycalculation.com/analytical/tangent-of-circle-calculator.php
The calculator say 58.655 and my solidworks say 58.65503303 😃

2018-08-10 17:25:58 UTC

But it is as you described. I do a circle with the given radius, then on North (0 degrees) i draw a line that goes op 0.27km. From the top of that line to the tangent of the circle, that line is 58km

2018-08-10 17:26:19 UTC

But we should have that gene work it out himself

2018-08-10 19:04:24 UTC

I really cant believe I spent time doing this

2018-08-10 19:05:07 UTC

Cessna at Max Altitude (4.5km) and a Baloon at 114k ft. Note that Sketchup has segmented the globe a bit so just keep that in mind. It is scaled in meters. NOTE: The plane and baloon are not scaled, they are for illustrative purposes only

2018-08-10 19:08:30 UTC

@MR VLAK mooi man. scale of the plane and ballon to earth ratio might mislead 😉

2018-08-10 19:08:56 UTC

yeah I need you guys to see them. If i scale them its almost just a dot

2018-08-10 19:09:14 UTC

But yeah that could be misleading sorry

2018-08-10 19:11:38 UTC

lol well, let's import it into UE4? create a something that more interactive lol

2018-08-10 19:12:07 UTC

why not!

2018-08-10 19:12:21 UTC

what format you need?

2018-08-10 19:12:59 UTC

let me see, i think UE4 can import cad files, but let me fire it up and have a look quick

2018-08-10 19:14:27 UTC

I can do these straight out of Sketchup

2018-08-10 19:16:12 UTC

I will fix the scale of the plane and balloon for your import

2018-08-10 19:17:25 UTC

Okay, let me get this started up quick

2018-08-10 19:19:48 UTC

thats a nice range of formats, maybe export to fbx, i know that works, 3ds should work as well i believe

2018-08-10 19:21:52 UTC

sweet let me scale them. I am going to remove measurements and refrence lines?

2018-08-10 19:23:53 UTC

If i scale that plane you will never find it. lol

2018-08-10 19:23:54 UTC

Just make sure they are scaled accurately as they should be, and then can work with that... but it needs to be in line with UE4 units, let me get the specs for you

2018-08-10 19:24:18 UTC

its wing span is 10m so in the model it is only 10mm

2018-08-10 19:24:28 UTC

1 unit = 1cm

2018-08-10 19:24:57 UTC

it will work

2018-08-10 19:25:06 UTC

yeah just keep it in proportion and let me know, so that I can get the 0.27 hight correct

2018-08-10 19:25:45 UTC

I changed that height to a higher elevation, max altitude of 4.5km

2018-08-10 19:26:07 UTC

4.5km is 4500mm is 45cm

2018-08-10 19:26:37 UTC

so in the engine the 45cm in my model will be 45units

2018-08-10 19:26:47 UTC

okay sweet

2018-08-10 19:27:25 UTC

Good Luck finding the plane

2018-08-10 19:27:53 UTC

lol
