I hope the film flops hard
But it won't because Disney will pay sites to leave positive reviews and if you say anything bad about the film they will blame it on misogyny
The court only ruled it unconstitutional and discriminatory. It did not establish how the government should respond.
I was reading that they have to either abolish it or make women sign up too, is this true?
its apaarently not completely binding, so its not the last decision
and i dont totally love it, id rather no draft, but i do look forward to following the conversations about it
Ncfm wanted the judge to either get rid of the draft or to make it gender neutral
They just accepted the latter
ah well
then thats that
overall, a good sign
it will force conversations
the next few days will be interesting
So now women will be held to the same punishments if they dont sign up?
Feminists will be protesting to end the draft completely now lol
A lot I know say that was their original plan, yet I never saw action to do so. Only to keep women from it.
No they still dont have to sign up
Oh wow. what a major victory. Thanks NCFM!
"The judge denied the government's request for a stay of the ruling."
Oh my
If they dont have to sign up how is it a victory, did this get rid of it all together?
I don't think the government has an action plan on that yet
It's the US government
Give it 8 months or so
The court ruling does not demand a specific action from the government. All that happens now is that the court has recognized that the government must do something. It is possible that until the court makes the government do something that a man could be acquitted of failure to sign up for the draft based on the ruling.
its really important to note that this is a California decision... historically the US Supreme Court has a tendency to overturn decisions made in the West Coast
the West Coast Supreme Court is very 'liberal' compared to the Supreme Court's much more 'conservative' verdicts
its a great first step, but managing your expectations is important
Also the NCFM makes lawsuits in California because it is really strict on the Equal Protection Clause. The broader US is usually not as strict
I hope women have to sign up too. It's only fair.
They won't
There's no way they'll make them
They might
I get why they didn't have to initially
They couldn't serve in combat roles but not they can
The Selective Service System, if given the mission and modest additional resources, is capable of registering and drafting women with its existing infrastructure.
My brother never registered
It's odd that you have to register, yet they know if you didn't, therefore couldn't they just draft you anyway?
