Men pay 93% of alimony for a start
That's true. The problem is they are saying: "when men do want equal joint custody, they file and get it."
Which does not seem to be the experience of men, but it is what their citations say.
Well that's not true 5/6 cases are won by women
Gimme a min on that
If you can cite that, it would be awesome
<@&524226120661336076> any ideas? If not we may need to go with the studies - as much as they jar suspiciously with other statistics and lived experences.
I recognize those twitter names, they’re a little cabal. They never debate in good faith
They will lie and cherry pick data/studies, distort words, etc
Hmm. Really?
Want to get involved?
It'd be good if you did
Yes, they all comment and join in on each other’s stuff
I thought that might be the case. We need our on cabal - and we need to be better at it than them
Exactly
And regarding stats, its one of those things that’s inherently and sensible obvious that men face a bias
But we need solid stats to present
I’ll do some looking
Thanks a lot. If you could wade in and tackle the divorce stuff that would be a major help
I'm sure I've seen a post on men's rights addressing those claims before, saying they are BS, because it's not the first time I've heard them, even though they are commonly spouted on 2x, feminism and the like
If you could find them that would be good! I have to go to bed now
It does jar with literally every other stat. I'm suspicious of the idea men don't fight for custody
If @InsaneCaterpilla or anyone else wants to tackle them, please go right ahead - I'm off to bed
I'll see what I can find later today
Oof, it looks like I missed CoP :<
Hell I missed him, and I AM him! Work was nuts!
I work at a hospital, Labor and Delivery. My department is Registration but I do so much more than that.
Aside from mommas and babies, I handle patient status types throughout the hospital, insurance claims and follow ups, and handle several different calls, to begin to explain what I do. I like it.
12hr shifts Thurs through Sat, and a mini shift on Wednesday. Rest of the week is open.
4 day week, sounds nice ^^
Ok, so, ive looked around Reddit and I can't find the rebuttal I thought I'd seen. I've also had a look for a decent one that debunks that stat through google but find it difficult to locate the source of the stat. This might be because it doesn't exist. Genkernels links to stats in <#523922218200203265> are solid, however, in that they show fathers getting custody (even joint) less often than women even in contested cases. However to fully debunk the claim it requires an analysis of the source... Twitter probably isn't the best place to get that, and I doubt people there are gonna pay attention if you ask for it tbh
Was that thread you were looking for that one?
You know, it might be. Great job finding that
Looks like the citations are dead
Or some of them
The sources for the claim in the Reddit thread still work for me
Incl the study which supposedly gives the figure I was thinking of (it's close if not exact to the figure your person gave)
Haven't had chance to read through it yet though
