Well, you don’t believe there’s any objective purpose, do you?

2018-12-10 00:21:22 UTC

I do believe there is purpose to life, as I have explained in the past. The human mind is geared towards self-actualization and a desires to feel like it has a purpose in life

2018-12-10 00:21:28 UTC

isn't purpose always assigned though? its hardly inherent in things

2018-12-10 00:21:29 UTC

*desire

2018-12-10 00:21:49 UTC

Yeah it’s not a “real” purpose, it’s a desire

2018-12-10 00:21:50 UTC

hey guys

2018-12-10 00:21:56 UTC

i live in one of the few remaining conservative strongholds of canada

2018-12-10 00:22:05 UTC

it's gotten bad

2018-12-10 00:22:08 UTC

We all define objective morality subjectively

2018-12-10 00:22:21 UTC

But that’s just a purpose the chemicals in your brain have assigned to it

2018-12-10 00:22:24 UTC

```i live in one of the few remaining conservative strongholds of canada
well duh, its a conservative stronghold. of course its bad 😄
2018-12-10 00:22:29 UTC
prices are skyrocketing everywhere
2018-12-10 00:22:29 UTC
I've figured that the best moral system is the one that is closely aligned with the truth
2018-12-10 00:22:36 UTC
🇯🇲
2018-12-10 00:22:38 UTC
But the problem is no two people view truth the same
2018-12-10 00:23:00 UTC
@FreshWholeMilk I fail to see what that is supposed to mean.
2018-12-10 00:23:15 UTC
there's a political divide in the schools between the gays and everyone else which is coming close to a boiling point
2018-12-10 00:23:19 UTC
How do you determine the truth?
2018-12-10 00:23:20 UTC
How can a moral system be aligned with truth at all?
2018-12-10 00:23:26 UTC
>Okay, you may be driven to do something, but I don't like what you're driven by?
2018-12-10 00:23:29 UTC
All normative claims are subjective
2018-12-10 00:23:33 UTC
Honestly, why does it matter?
2018-12-10 00:23:36 UTC
trudeau is apologising to everyone and nothing is getting done
2018-12-10 00:23:40 UTC
Seems like the goals are being shifted
2018-12-10 00:23:51 UTC
You just said earlier there is no purpose to life in the atheist worldview
2018-12-10 00:23:53 UTC
parliament is mostly down to screaming matches between the conservatives and liberals
2018-12-10 00:23:58 UTC
Now you are attacking what gives that purpose
2018-12-10 00:24:22 UTC
Because it’s arbitrary
2018-12-10 00:24:46 UTC
either canada's about to enter a political age akin to the 2016 election in america
2018-12-10 00:24:51 UTC
It’s as arbitrary as god giving you purpose
2018-12-10 00:24:53 UTC
2018-12-10 00:24:55 UTC
```But the problem is no two people view truth the same```

Yeah, something that is the awkward but necessary byproduct of living in a relativistic universe. Now, I think that while there *is* one unifying truth, no two observers can realistically ever see it the same way. We only perceive echoes of the truth, and the closest we get to truth is by combining our perspectives and ideas, combined with trial and error.

2018-12-10 00:24:56 UTC

You could decide your purpose in life is to eat people and rape children if you wanted to

2018-12-10 00:24:58 UTC

or this is the last kick of the dead body of the canadian conservative party

2018-12-10 00:25:19 UTC

2018-12-10 00:25:20 UTC

People insist the bible is objective, and sure, it is, but people certainly don't interpret it the way they're supposed to, do they?

2018-12-10 00:25:26 UTC

hi

2018-12-10 00:25:34 UTC
