I finally went through Gears 5.

As a gears fan since 1, gotta admit - it's pretty fucking good.

Nothing will ever beat Gears 3, but it does beat Gears 2 by a bit. It's definitely worth it. I love the lore of the world, and it just spoon feeds it to you. Everywhere you go is somewhere new, and something interesting. I've always dug the UIR, specifically the Gorasnyans, and to get to operate in UIR territory is fuckin' radical.

They didn't pull punches when they tried to breathe air into it. It felt good, I loved going back to New Hope, and learning more about Niles and his goons. I just finished Gears 2 to relive my childhood and man . . . in comparison? Gears 2 doesn't even jump into the lore, it hesitates. But there's enough of a foundation for the series to build off of.

Gears 4 was about setting everything up - I very much disliked Gears 4's campaign, arguably as bad as Judgement IMO. It was a beautiful but shallow lake. Gears 5 picks up that shit-smear and polishes it into something fantastic. Kait is actually enjoyable and respectable, alongside Del, and the new characters as well.

Easily an 8/10.
