I was working at chikfila at 19 so not bad, I guess you gotta settle for the bullshit jobs at first
Pretty much
Start small then work your way up
If you don't plan on going to college, go technical, get certifications, get into manufacturing get up the chain of command, survive the operator level bs for a few years, volunteer for shit, work extra hard, show interest in maintenance, engeneering, machining, calibration etc...
You'll get up there
Or do trucking in you got no home life, no wife and kids etc...
Work hard and build a future
Working with fast food seems to much to me
I can see a restaurant but fast food is a fuck
I'd be spooked I'd fuck up
But enjoy being young and partying and seeing friends
I hate fast food and retail
I refuse to deal with that shit
And overbearing management
Trucking can fuck you up
I like trucking because I have a shit load of freedom, work as hard or little as I want, choose when to be home, make a shit load of money and you can quite literally tell you FM to fuck off
But also danger, poor health and liability
Trucking seems fun if you have sound mental health
I mean...
I sometimes lose it, I drink alot, have long sad night drives etc...
Honestly my bf is my motivation
Cuz I'm a fag like that
Knowing I'm gonna see him again keeps me going, especially through the long dark drives in the middle of nowhere
I watched a video recently and one thing stuck out to me "teeth are the first reminder of mortality" I spent a whole shift thinking about that and I always worry about what kind of horrors await me in the future, what could go wrong, what if I crash, what if I die or get horribly disfigured, what if my mom dies and I'm not there for her. What if I die alone out here in the cold dark sleeper bunk at some truckstop in wyoming not to be found for days. I'm afraid of dying alone honestly.
Also going to jail or getting diabetes are my two other main fears.
Why would you go to jail
Trucking is full of liability
A guy got life in prison because his brakes failed and plowed through 20 cars killing a bunch of people
Christ
Do you check your breaks on the regular now
He was legally responsible for the proper maintenance of his vehicle, but you can't find everything in a pretrip inspection, sometimes shit happens while you're driving
Yeah
I do an inspection at the begining of every shift and do maintenance check ups at a shop every 6 months
Huh
Or if I fall asleep at the wheel or not paying attention or miss something as I'm merging I could kill someone
I'm very good about it, but it only takes one mistake out of a years and possibly decades long career to end it all
That possibility is always looming over your head but you just gotta keep going and burry your anxiety
I trust my judgement and skills
