@Thomas O'Malley didn't you do a video on Gorbachev's role in the Soviet union's fall?
Yes.
Why?
I saw your comment you had regarding the fall of the Soviet union, that activated my almonds, and than I was trying to remember why do I know this.
How did my comment activate your almonds?
You wrote that Gorbachev was the person most responsible for the collapse of the Soviet union, and I started "thinking he's probably right" and briefly debated myself before agreeing with you completely
Good video btw
Thank you.
Who or what did you think was most responsible for the break-up of the Soviet Union before my video?
A series of bad decisions by the Soviet Union through out its history, nationalist movements in their western territories, and lack of resources to keep itself afloat
All those were factors, but Gorbachev was the man who exploded the powder keg.
Does anyone know why though? From what I understand he seemed like a very competent man. Did he just hate Socialism or was he just weak willed person
He thought he could turn the Soviet Union into a Scandinavia-style democratic socialist state, and then the whole thing came crashing down.
Now that makes sense. Even if he was willing to use force It probably would failed anyway
Slavs seem to desire authoritarian governments
Also unlike Slavs, Scandinavians live in high trust societies. Sadly (for Gorb) Gorbachev's plan doomed to fail

China initiated a thorium molten-salt reactor research project in January 2011.[21] A 100-MW demonstrator of the solid fuel version (TMSR-SF), based on pebble bed technology, planned to be ready by 2024. Initially, a 10-MW pilot and a larger demonstrator of the liquid fuel (TMSR-LF) variant were targeted for 2024 and 2035 respectively.[22][23] China then accelerated its program to build two 12 MW reactors underground at Wuwei research facilities in Gansu Province by 2020.[24] Heat from the thorium molten-salt reaction would be used to produce electricity, hydrogen, industrial chemicals, desalination and minerals.[24] The project also seeks to test new corrosion resistant materials.[24] @Orwell & Goode
