No way maybe 200 years

2018-09-24 17:07:19 UTC

my lifetime being maybe another 30 years at least.

2018-09-24 17:07:27 UTC

probably 50

2018-09-24 17:07:58 UTC

id predict it before 2050

2018-09-24 17:08:36 UTC

We can allready simulate at least portions of a brain, we did in fact do that. Took years to simulate a second, but that doesnt matter to the scan existing.

2018-09-24 17:08:50 UTC

BUT

2018-09-24 17:09:08 UTC

it would need a new kind of harddrive to save it

2018-09-24 17:09:18 UTC

because our brain doesn't work binary

2018-09-24 17:09:18 UTC

scanning isn't the hardpart, it's the storage

2018-09-24 17:09:28 UTC

exaaactly

2018-09-24 17:09:35 UTC

@Mysteriedingens you cant only describe binary states with binary

2018-09-24 17:09:52 UTC

even a byte isnt binary anymore.

2018-09-24 17:10:12 UTC

Maybe Quantum Computing will change the possibilities

2018-09-24 17:10:33 UTC

Even a single byte can describe 256 different states

2018-09-24 17:10:59 UTC

You can simulate a brain with conventional computing

2018-09-24 17:11:01 UTC

5d optical storage shows promise, but not enough people/orgs are working with it.

2018-09-24 17:11:23 UTC

False, a bit can only represent two states

2018-09-24 17:11:33 UTC

a bit can describe two states

2018-09-24 17:11:41 UTC

a byte is made up of 8 bits and can describe 256 states

2018-09-24 17:12:18 UTC

because of the combination of states the bits can have

2018-09-24 17:12:27 UTC

right

2018-09-24 17:12:51 UTC

its just another representation of a quantity of bits, it still breaks down to bits

2018-09-24 17:13:11 UTC

and?

2018-09-24 17:13:31 UTC

gravity is also not binary and can be simulated by computers quite easily

2018-09-24 17:13:51 UTC

you don't recreate gravity, just a simulation of it

2018-09-24 17:14:03 UTC

qubits however can be both 0 and 1 at the same time

2018-09-24 17:14:28 UTC

you can achieve the same by simply combining 2 bits...

2018-09-24 17:14:41 UTC

100million times slower

2018-09-24 17:15:02 UTC

Yeah maybe slower, but for mere storage its more than good enough

2018-09-24 17:15:43 UTC

it takes a few megabytes and few seconds to save a picture, what do you think concsciousness has in terms of file format

2018-09-24 17:15:57 UTC

for write only storage it's fine, but for read/write, that's terrible.

2018-09-24 17:16:46 UTC

Again, i just said saving my conciousness, not actualy activating it should be possible within my lifetime

2018-09-24 17:16:50 UTC

There is the discussion, as soon as you save your consciousness, you are not you anymore. Data storage has package loss, so you mutate your consciousness

2018-09-24 17:17:28 UTC

As if you are actually saving your consciousness you only clone yourself

2018-09-24 17:17:52 UTC

well, yeah thats a philosophical consideration SOMA toyed with as well

2018-09-24 17:18:24 UTC

(In that game there were people that commited suicide right after their brainscans for the sake of continuity)

2018-09-24 18:37:35 UTC

Tf, you banned YOUTUBE?

2018-09-24 18:37:42 UTC

WTAF

2018-09-24 18:48:10 UTC

I tried to post a youtube link and it says its banned

2018-09-24 18:48:50 UTC

Ah yes, nobody van post YouTube links or invites
