I know that a lot of you guys work in tech and whatnot, so is it true, in your opinions, that there is a "tech worker shortage?" I've heard a lot of statistics both ways to argue that there is or isn't an actual shortage, and I was wondering if it was just bullshit pushed to support the H1B visa program. I don't work in tech, so I can't really say.

Any kind of "worker shortage" is code for "we have too few people applying for jobs, let in more people so we can keep wages down"

Even if there is a shortage, the market would pull people to change majors to fill that shortage in a short period of time. Its just an excuse to depress wages. Also, the gov pays companies to hire foreigners.

I wouldn't have so much of a problem with the OPT program, if we ended the H1b visa program. Why do we need both?

Personally, I'd end the H1b, then i'd make it more expensive for foreigners to go to US universities. After that, I'd be somewhat okay with the idea of something like the OPT program.
