carney has said it could be this month or next

2020-01-15 18:40:31 UTC

carney needs to go

2020-01-15 18:40:38 UTC

hes out in march

2020-01-15 18:40:42 UTC

good

2020-01-15 18:40:48 UTC

fucking rate cuts

2020-01-15 18:40:51 UTC

honestly

2020-01-15 18:42:40 UTC

it will most likely go back to 0.5 but only for a few months.. just my speculation

2020-01-15 18:43:05 UTC

depends how uncertain stuff gets with the EU deal

2020-01-15 18:43:25 UTC

Im sure the EU will try to "talk tough"

2020-01-15 18:44:16 UTC

i have 7 years left of fixed rate - i'd be quite happy with high inflation and high interest rates for a while

2020-01-15 18:44:31 UTC

I got 3

2020-01-15 18:45:01 UTC

but increase base rates dont necessarily mean remortgage rates will go up..

2020-01-15 18:45:11 UTC

does if they ended up at ~5%

2020-01-15 18:45:28 UTC

when the base rate went to 0.75... the mortgage rates on average went down since I got mine when base rates were 0.5

2020-01-15 18:45:42 UTC

competition will still be a factor

2020-01-15 18:45:55 UTC

but base rate change is reactionary...

2020-01-15 18:46:13 UTC

at the moment the changes in interest rates are within margins

2020-01-15 18:46:32 UTC

so its likely that eventually it will follow... but in the few years after base rate hikes mortgages could go down before they go back up

2020-01-15 18:49:43 UTC

see when I got my mortgage when rates where 0.5% ... my mortgage was 1.79% ... just looked now (with rates at 0.75%) 2yrs later... and that same mortgage is now 1.54%

2020-01-15 18:52:57 UTC

but they made a mistake when they did my mortgage.. and accidentally forgot to charge me the mortgage fee... so I saved about 650 quid 😛

2020-01-15 18:53:40 UTC

i could probably save money by switching up mortgages, but just not worth the hassle

2020-01-15 18:54:42 UTC

isnt there a fee if you break it early?

2020-01-15 18:54:53 UTC

yes, that's why it's not really worth the hassle

2020-01-15 18:55:27 UTC

Depends on the mortgage but usually, though if you're getting a better interest rate its usually worth it especially earlier on in the mortgage

2020-01-15 18:57:31 UTC

ooo ... hsbc got rid of their mortgage calculators :/

2020-01-15 18:58:27 UTC

Ouch, anyone found anything better than the Santander 123 now they're cutting the interest again?

2020-01-15 18:58:45 UTC

not been looking

2020-01-15 18:59:22 UTC

pretty much acknowledged you don't get interest on savings accounts now

2020-01-15 18:59:56 UTC

i saw something the other day that basically said santander 123 is on the brink of going under

2020-01-15 19:00:12 UTC

Yeah, it's been like that for a good few years now, that's why I kept everything in the 123 when the top rate was 3%

2020-01-15 19:01:09 UTC

Yeah, they're keeping the monthly fee at £5 but capping the cashback at £5 per rate, and dropping the interest from 1.5% to 1%

2020-01-15 19:01:47 UTC

Initially it was 1% up to ~2k, 2% up to ~5k then 3% up to 20k

2020-01-15 19:11:16 UTC

I got a 90-day streak on duolingo

I love how Meghan thought she was getting her childhood princess dreams and then she met the Queen, who turned that dream on it's head and now she wants nothing to do with it. <:pepelaugh:544857300179877898> <:pepegun:588019479401726001>

2020-01-15 19:31:01 UTC

You'd think with all this power and influence Russia would have taken over the world by now

2020-01-15 19:31:24 UTC

Or at least Europe
