EU chlorinate pre-packed salads, but they trying to make it a big deal that American chicken gets the same treatment
...so now it's something remoaners want to say we were promised would never happen
it's like saying menopause and Female Sterilization are the same thing
they share a commonality but they're different things - and using words that describe different things interchangably is what causes people to be able to mock your argument as a strawman without them looking bad
even if they did know what you mean, why are you using something that promotes ambiguity and leaves that door open
esp when you're going to go after people for their opinion in that
I would compare it too if someone said “evolution is true” and someone responded “yeah things change”, I’m arguing that people use what is commonly understood - not that in debates and discussions we can’t discuss and find out what definitions each of us are using and go from there
It might be what you think is commonly understood - however, its a stupid loop hole to leave in your argumentation
and given that people can and do argue back on the usage, it's even more stupid
If you use common language when making a simple comment, I don’t see the problem (and that’s what I was doing, tho granted politics ain’t that simple)... redefining after other comments are made I have no problem with either because as you said not everyone has the same language and terms
I appriciate that you understand the context on being in a politics place makes common language. However, you have seen in the past people say "climate change is always happening" because it's true. Man made climate change, is something different it describes the human involvement and our impact on the earth. If you want to win the overall arguement (the one with the audience and not the interlocutor) you do not want to leave room for doubt
also you want to stop making arguments that are dishonest if this is your pet issue (not claiming that you do, however, there are people who do)
the dishonest issues in an area that is not commonly understood opens up the doubt when someone brings it to light
Well that was kinda my point, that I wasn’t trying to be dishonest... but yeah we ain’t exactly in disagreement, common language is useful until it is not
That's a good example - when I listen to a debate and someone talks about "stopping climate change", I consider them a fool.

In all fairness, she was caught collaborating with Israel outside her remit - she's far from perfect...

oddly fitting
I'm surprised that the UK Government hasn't proposed a ban on log burning fires and BBQ's.
Yet
I won’t be surprised if they decide to ban bonfires on 5th November
They'll start ratcheting the wet wood/house coal ban after a couple of years
I think if a new rightwing party comes into play Boris will be screwed.
@Gaylien dont give them ideas
Well my BBQ is propane.
So that should be ok
Or do we have a voting system rigged against any real alternative.
hank would be proud
I think a new rightwing party would go the same way as TIG/CUK/TIGFC or whatever they called themselves because of the fear of letting Labour in if the vote was split too much
^
@Hiddenhope they'll come for that too, they're already making noises about gas boilers
Labour have to destroy themselves utterly before a new party can arise
