2018-12-31 22:05:25 UTC

it's more like urban skirmishes than all out war

2018-12-31 22:06:01 UTC

2018-12-31 22:06:03 UTC

it a fun game to play as it faithful to the rules. and GW have been focusing much more of skirmish style TT games this year

2018-12-31 22:08:07 UTC

40k did get the kill team rules, a squad vs squad where you don't need to use special models so it the ultimate gateway drug for 40k

2018-12-31 22:19:28 UTC

it was like 15 yrs ago lol

2018-12-31 22:33:24 UTC

@turtwig you would maybe like malifaux then

2018-12-31 22:33:37 UTC

what's that?

2018-12-31 22:33:37 UTC

Small squad based combat, though cards replace dice

2018-12-31 22:33:44 UTC

gay

2018-12-31 22:33:51 UTC

cards make everything worse

2018-12-31 22:34:13 UTC

Standard playing cards and abilities are based on suits ect.

2018-12-31 22:34:35 UTC

Its the same number generation in a sense.

2019-01-06 10:13:12 UTC

Chess is the greatest tabletop.
game. prove me wrong

2019-01-06 18:04:04 UTC

Yea i watched it. Tbh im not the biggest fan of matt mercers dm style. I dont mind the rest, but as a dm hes not the strongest.

2019-01-06 18:05:16 UTC

Least not for dnd. He would be better suited for more story systems like fate, vtm, and call of cthulu

2019-01-06 18:05:16 UTC

What's your sort of style?

2019-01-06 18:12:43 UTC

To be honest every system is slightly fidderent. But dnd, to me at least is a balancing of mechanics and story. I have watched interviews with mercer and critical roll. While much of it is decent, he does fudge rolls a hair to often, or not have a mechanics check at all when he really should. It takes away from the more...surprise of the situation.

Critical role as a show has been a bit of a double edged sword for dnd in general.

2019-01-06 18:13:41 UTC

It gave the game/fandom much needed positive press. But gave a lot of those new players this expectation level that is near unrealistic with a new group.

2019-01-06 18:16:35 UTC

@Goblin_Slayer_Floki most of the 5e players I've talked really should be playing more rules lite systems since they're more into the story then the mechanics

2019-01-06 18:25:40 UTC

Many i would agree. Many of them are new to dnd, and were inspired to join via critical role and others like it. To many players ive ran into havent even opened the player handbook in a meaningful way. Like sargon, vee, and arch with theirs.

The older players from systems like 3.5 and pa5hfinder tend to be fine. Story is important, but so are mechanics.

2019-01-06 18:26:26 UTC

But the issue is 5e in general. It was built as a medium mechanics game with a light mechanics feel

2019-01-06 18:26:37 UTC

that's a very big reason why I don't play 5e

2019-01-06 18:27:05 UTC

Yea. I have high hopes for Pathfinder 2

2019-01-06 18:27:16 UTC

It looks like what 5e should have been

2019-01-06 18:27:38 UTC

Simplification and streamlining of rules, but still mechanics drivin.

2019-01-16 15:45:33 UTC

I have been listening to a pretty entertaining WH40k Dark Heresy campaign, I recommend it.
