Yeah

```The RFI is for a Sub Compact Weapon (SCW) that will fire 9x19-millimeter (9mm Luger) ammunition, have full automatic capability, a Picatinny rail for attaching lights, optics, and other accessories, and mentions the capability to mount a suppressor.```
2018-05-13 17:25:11 UTC
*9mm Luger*???
2018-05-13 17:27:44 UTC
The 9×19mm Parabellum is a firearms cartridge that was designed by Georg Luger and introduced in 1902 by the German weapons manufacturer Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) (German Weapons and Munitions Factory) for their Luger semi-automatic pistol.[5] For this reason, it is designated as the **9mm Luger** by the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute (SAAMI),[6] and the **9 mm Luger** by the Commission Internationale Permanente pour l'Epreuve des Armes à Feu Portatives (CIP).[3]
I understand what it is
2018-05-13 17:29:09 UTC
It just seems..
2018-05-13 17:29:20 UTC
..out-of-the-ordinary..
2018-05-13 17:30:30 UTC
```Why is the Army going back to submachine guns? The service has made clear that it is looking to adopt a new round, possibly the 6.8-millimeter, round for its Next Generation Squad Automatic Weapon and next generation carbine. While the M4A1 carbine with its 5.56-millimeter round is small and light enough to equip vehicle crews and rear area troops, a 6.8 weapon could be heavier and bulkier, making it difficult to store in a truck cab. A 6.8 weapon would probably have more recoil, and rear area troops get less range time than their frontline counterparts.

A 9-millimeter submachine gun that was easy to carry, had less recoil, and could be used in self-defense would be desirable for troops infrequently exposed to combat. Nine millimeter also means the SCW would use the same ammunition as the new M17 Modular Handgun System.```

2018-05-13 17:30:41 UTC

well then, if the handgun takes the same ammo it makes a bit more sense..

2018-05-13 17:31:28 UTC

what

2018-05-13 17:31:32 UTC

what's so complicated

2018-05-13 17:38:04 UTC

Was just under the impression that they were trending away from 9mm in general, but now I see most of the in-service SMGs, despite getting a little old by now, are nearly all 9mm models except for the more modern MP7

2018-05-13 17:40:33 UTC

9mm is a great round especially with modern bullet technology

2018-05-13 17:40:39 UTC

also, 9mm +P exists

2018-05-13 17:40:59 UTC

Everyone loves the P

2018-05-14 00:17:31 UTC

9mm is largely fine

2018-05-14 00:18:34 UTC

It's small enough to carry a decent amount in and outside magazines without being a serious burden, while being reasonably lethal. There's better rounds, sure, but 9mm is omnipresent and functional.

2018-05-14 11:09:48 UTC

I made an oopsie and accidentally bought a 92fs INOX

2018-05-14 12:51:05 UTC

That's quite a oopsie

```I think it's someone wanting to make a few bucks off of military testing so they're going to run a multi million dollar program to find 'the right smg' only to shitcan the whole deal 3 years later in favor of a current system```
