I think that attitude that politicians only care about power and fame is overblown. I think plenty of them care about the country, it's just that plenty of them think they know a lot more than what they do about what's good for the country. Perhaps I'm being too charitable but I think it's good to try.

If Trump cared about power, he wouldn't be clashing so much against both parties. He would have filled his government with the other Republicans, like Obama did with Hillary.

Basically, she had a life sentence for a non-violent drug offense.
So all the Republicans who are very anti-drugs would not be happy about it.
But yeah probably the vast majority of people won't even hear about this.
One thing I've found very interesting is that Trump spends an inordinate amount of time not just bashing people who are doing a bad job in his eye, which is the obvious thing everyone knows about, but he also spends just as much time congratulating people for doing a good job! Of course, the media never reports on that.

In so many of his speeches and meetings where the press is there, he will literally go around the room pointing people out and telling them they're doing a good job, listing them off one after another.

Yeah it is interesting... Reagan says a trade war would be a threat to national security... while Trump says that this trade war is for the sake of national security. 🤔

Basically, on the one hand if it doesn't work out, yes there could potentially be massive damage to free trade and the American economy, but on the other hand it's hard if not impossible to appreciate what kind of leverage Trump is working with without having the type of team he has.
To help him calculate the risk, I mean.
