So Trump really is economically ignorant after all
Depends on your angle
How is that *not understanding economics*. It makes sense. Basically he is saying we are getting tariffed/taxed. And so we should tarriff/tax them. And they then have a choice. Lower tarriffs or make it here.
The countries tariffing th us make it harder for the us to compete in their markets. Why not do the same?
Because tariffs are a tax on the American people.
And actually hurt the economy.
4%
just sayin
The world average is tiny but 0 would be better
Tarrifs are a tax on the country of origin that the country of origins people get no benifit from. So makes sense. Counter tarriff until a better deal. And tell manufactures deal with it or come here.
Depends on the good. Dairy to canada from the US is 270% depending on product
thats over 2.5 times the cost
I'm super confused about how to tax people if you shouldn't tarrif nor should you have an income tax
So just a flat sales tax?
Or just tariff.
Thats a tarriff. Sales tax is on goods sold in the country and is usually universal regardless on product origin. Tariffs are taxes only on countries of origin to ship into the nation based on product. Regardless if it sells or not.
The issue with tariffs is it is a tax that has no benifit to the ones taxed. Income, Sales, Property taxes go towards things that benifit the payer. But hell many states dont have income or sales, and fed doesnt have sales.
benefit being relative in nature depending on the political ideology.
I don't understand why everyone wants to criticize Trump for using tariffs but then don't ever seem to care about all the other countries using tariffs against the US.
@Thomas the Sowell Train [USA] noteworthy that the german automakers sperged out when trump said he was introducing a new car tariff.
Despite europe charging a 25% import tariff on american cars.
And our tariff on them is gonna be 10% lower
yo boi it's my old pal Sceneable
@LordCaledus maybe they shouldn't fucking cook their books then
TOO DAMN WOKE
The thing about tariffs is most people have the concept backward. It isn't a tax on foreign companies. It is a tax on products consumed by the people in a country. The people who pay for it is the consumer.
Yes, which means purchasing these items outside of the country increases in cost.
Because it in turn affects the product's sale value.
The companies themselves will not take the hit on profit because they simply won't let it affect their profit margins.
Companies compensate, which means the cost of buying goods in a country is higher.
People really need to grasp that part of economy.
Holy shit, the guardian AU just got woke
