Anecdotal this but fuck it, in my mother's home town there was one main source of employment left after the coal mines closed and that was a banana factory of all things. Well the locals worked there instead for years. Government put up the minimum wage, and at the same time decided it would be the progressive thing to do if they subsidised the wages of migrant workers to incentivise businesses to hire them and not be filthy racist scum. So the factory closed for a bit, everyone laid off, then reopened not long after and rehired a new set of staff. Every one of them a polish immigrant.
