im watching the one about starship troopers atm, and just got to where he says the federation doesnt use deceptive propaganda. when i think back on the film, other than thinking its a great movie, i felt that its "possible" something was off about it. And thought that the bug war might have been a front, so where sargon says that the federation was being open about the destruction of Buenos Aires, the first thing that came to mind was "that could have been staged so the federation could justify a war with the bugs". I don't know for sure either way, but was that a consideration?

I bet they made the bugs in a lab and put them on a far away planet to really sell the story πŸ€”

2018-11-08 13:16:43 UTC

the film is filled with propaganda

2018-11-08 13:16:48 UTC

the book not so much

2018-11-08 13:16:49 UTC

@orolyn Maybe, but you're analyzing a half assed movie based on a book

2018-11-08 13:17:25 UTC

he only used parts of the film for reference when it matched the book

2018-11-08 13:17:30 UTC

or he explained the minor differences

2018-11-08 13:17:39 UTC

@Fitzydog probably ye, it did surprize me that the director intended to make it depict facism lol

2018-11-08 13:17:50 UTC

but failed

2018-11-08 13:18:05 UTC

Yeah, well the director is a soci boi

2018-11-08 13:19:23 UTC

Because the movie originated from an unrelated script, with names and superficial details from the novel being added retroactively, there are many significant differences between the original book and the film.[7] While the original novel has been accused of promoting militarism, fascism, and military rule,[8][9] the film satirizes these concepts by featuring bombastic displays of nationalism as well as news reports that are intensely fascist, xenophobic, and propagandistic.[7]

*Because the movie originated from an unrelated script*

2018-11-08 13:23:03 UTC

mm, i wish i'd read the book, i can see how the film doesnt go into great detail

Its okay, you'll just have to be surprised by how things unfold after our inevitable war with China.

2018-11-08 13:28:48 UTC

:P inevitable?

2018-11-08 13:29:01 UTC

2018-11-08 13:30:02 UTC

It's a joke, referencing the book

2018-11-08 13:30:13 UTC

well i havent read it lol!!

2018-11-08 13:30:15 UTC

and how closely it mirrors current events

2018-11-08 13:32:09 UTC

There's like global rioting after the Chinese impose their hegemony, from social scientists and child psychologists weakening society and encouraging breakdown

2018-11-08 13:32:58 UTC

I've always found that it sounds very familiar lol

2018-11-08 13:35:11 UTC
