@James Peterson artistotle's/aquias' argument from motion:
change is a real feature of the world
change is the actualization of a potential
for a potential to be actualized you need something already actual (principle of causality)
to explain change in the here and now we can't appeal to an infinite series of instrumental causes
such a series must terminate in a mover which is purely actual, ie the prime mover/god

I hope Muslims behead Dawkins

2019-12-21 20:49:11 UTC

@James Peterson the what made God argument is actually considered by atheists to be on the list of top 5 arguments against god.

2019-12-21 20:49:13 UTC

It will confirm karma

2019-12-21 20:49:17 UTC

And Hinduism

2019-12-21 20:49:41 UTC

The anthropic principle just says that the state you find yourself in can be explained by the past. If you wake up from a daze holding an umbrella and it’s raining that’s not divine providence

2019-12-21 20:49:49 UTC

they had to retcon some of the lore for Christianity

2019-12-21 20:49:59 UTC

to be backwards compatible

2019-12-21 20:50:19 UTC

The anthropic principle addresses all of the fine tuning evidence. If you think it doesn’t you likely don’t understand the anthropic principle

2019-12-21 20:50:41 UTC

forget the fine tuning argument. that's baby tier

2019-12-21 20:50:50 UTC

Agreed

2019-12-21 20:51:08 UTC

C’mon, glamp, it’s good if you use epistemically probability.

2019-12-21 20:51:10 UTC

But ok

There’s many different kinds of organism that could have evolved and if there’s some minimum fine tuning for any life such as chemistry existing and stable galaxies then that’s explained by multiverse

2019-12-21 20:52:14 UTC

That doesn’t address the fine tuning evidence.

2019-12-21 20:52:29 UTC

I hope Islam destorys the AltRight

2019-12-21 20:52:36 UTC

Fine tunning

2019-12-21 20:52:39 UTC

What fine tuning evidence is there that’s not addressed by multiverse?

2019-12-21 20:52:44 UTC

Sure

2019-12-21 20:52:45 UTC

@glamp I dispute the last premise. Why does it have to terminate in a mover which is purely actual?

If there are a million universes all with different fine tuning then obviously any sentient creature will find itself in the one universe that seems fine tuned for its existence. There’s no one alive in the other 99.9999% of universes the realize it’s not fine tuned

2019-12-21 20:54:12 UTC

Now realize it’s not 1M it’s more like 10 to the 500 (string theory landscape)

2019-12-21 20:54:13 UTC

@James Peterson because if it had any admixture of potentiality it would require actualization

2019-12-21 20:54:38 UTC

How about the cosmological constant. Is it’s too fast, you can’t form planets. If it’s too slow, the universe collapses.

Also, I can reverse that argument. If I exist and God exist, I just need God to create one universe for me to exist, therefore I exist.

2019-12-21 20:54:52 UTC

I used the same logic as Fuguer. I used a deduction.

2019-12-21 20:54:59 UTC

Cosmological constant is addresses by multiverse comment I just made above

2019-12-21 20:55:20 UTC

That doesn’t mean it came about naturally or by a personal mean.

2019-12-21 20:55:22 UTC

the only thing more Talmudic and Rabbinical than a Rabbi is a Christian trying to pretend his beliefs are justified

2019-12-21 20:55:29 UTC

In the 99.999999999% of universes where it’s not at a good value for life no one is alive to ask the question
