ancient terminology

2019-12-24 05:04:03 UTC

the greek philosophy of hedonism
where based on merchants who lived in southern italy

2019-12-24 05:04:04 UTC

rome was wealthy because of the CIA and american impericolonism

2019-12-24 05:04:04 UTC

Just because you are a hedonistic philosopher doesn't mean that your society in general is hedonistic.

2019-12-24 05:04:42 UTC

never forget about *chosen* and *exceptional*

2019-12-24 05:04:52 UTC

austere philosophers like Diogones would see many types of pleasures as immoral

2019-12-24 05:04:57 UTC

..I would say that India is hedonist because they have sexual
statues in public and talked about sexual pleasure openly

2019-12-24 05:05:35 UTC

the hedonists lived in Italy.

2019-12-24 05:05:41 UTC

A society's relationship to sex is one fascet of the society as a whole

2019-12-24 05:05:45 UTC

I guess I don't have a pleasure with hedonism as long as the society is eugenic and "progressing"

2019-12-24 05:05:56 UTC

but that seems to seldom be the case

2019-12-24 05:05:59 UTC

Societies don't progress

2019-12-24 05:06:05 UTC

...

2019-12-24 05:06:07 UTC

why I used quotes

2019-12-24 05:06:15 UTC

Society in general is disgenic, in my opinion

2019-12-24 05:06:22 UTC

JF probably would agree

2019-12-24 05:06:24 UTC

Societies do progress

2019-12-24 05:06:29 UTC

technologically they progress

2019-12-24 05:06:31 UTC

if healthy

2019-12-24 05:06:39 UTC

Any improvement upon the conditions we're in now would be "progress"

2019-12-24 05:06:44 UTC

In one aspect, a society can progress. But that aspect brings other parts to decay

2019-12-24 05:06:45 UTC

The greek hedonists... did not live in greece,
They lived in a hedonistic society
because they where allowed to walk around and talk..
In Greece they would be killed for immorality

2019-12-24 05:06:59 UTC

It's just that the term is applied to degeneration on an ideological basis by some people

2019-12-24 05:07:05 UTC

even if you have a cyclical view of history, there are societies that have progressed technologically/socially

2019-12-24 05:07:18 UTC

But they are dumber because of it

2019-12-24 05:07:22 UTC

and hedonism seems to correlate with the top of a cycle

2019-12-24 05:07:27 UTC

So, do they have a net progression? No

2019-12-24 05:07:35 UTC

hahahahaha

2019-12-24 05:07:48 UTC

hedonism correlates ,,,with one thing..
WEALTH

2019-12-24 05:07:56 UTC

yes

2019-12-24 05:08:03 UTC

and incoming decline

2019-12-24 05:08:06 UTC

the ability to afford hedonism..
and hedonism is not.. degeneate

2019-12-24 05:08:12 UTC

and dysgenics

2019-12-24 05:08:15 UTC

hedonism is constructive and serious

2019-12-24 05:08:27 UTC

Lots of ancient societies were wealthy and didn't have a hedonistic outlook. I don't think you can let the proletariate become hedonistic without modern industrial practicies.

2019-12-24 05:08:37 UTC

Hedonism is not constructive

2019-12-24 05:08:47 UTC

Rome wasn't built by hedonism

2019-12-24 05:08:48 UTC

I need lifting advice for barbell deadlifts and bent-over rows (and other lifts in general).
If I maintain a straight back during the lift, am I fairly safe?
Also, for rows, I'm not strong enough to use the 20kg plates on each side (60kg total),
but then I need the diameter of the 20kg plates, otherwise I arch my back quite a bit (I'm fairly tall)

2019-12-24 05:08:50 UTC

.no.. all the wealthy societies where hedonistic..

2019-12-24 05:08:54 UTC

Indulging in every base urge to gratify your mostly irrelevant desires is not constructive
