Don't know if what I am saying is heretic or not but how I am supposed to feel about some dubious things in the old testament, like Lot being intoxicated by his daughters?

2019-07-17 07:10:04 UTC

is it just (((long nose))) tribe fuckery or should I take the old testament as it is given

2019-07-17 08:30:24 UTC

the OT doesn't tell you that the events described in it are all an example of good behaviour lmao

2019-07-17 08:30:31 UTC

You have to understand, the bulk of the Old Testament is meant to be taken as a warning. Lots of stuff sounds bad as a sound byte, but taken in context it's always making an important statement recounting the degeneracy

2019-07-17 08:31:06 UTC

It is made very clear that Israel had a hard heart, but God makes it clear what is the final commandment: love God above all things, and your neighbor as yourself

2019-07-17 08:31:25 UTC

That is what Christ then repeats, but it is in the OT, when the mosaic law is given

2019-07-17 08:32:18 UTC

"And Israel did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord" **punishment happens** is basically the cycle you'll notice surrounding that stuff

2019-07-17 08:36:36 UTC

Pretty much. And even the leaders indulge in non-charitable behaviour, but they are never described as perfect people, which is why the attempt to imply that endless prophecies that clearly refer to the messiah and his glory ackshually refer to them is nonsensical

2019-07-17 08:46:38 UTC

Not only that, even when God comands anathema and complete destruction of cities, mercy is given to those who ask, like that one nation when the nations of the promise land where being conquered

2019-07-17 09:08:33 UTC

If David, the man after God's own heart didn't make the cut, how could the prophecies refer to literally anyone else but Christ lmao

Thanks a lot guys

<31> And when he bad passed, and stood still, Chusai appeared: and coming up he said: I bring good tidings, my lord, the king, for the Lord hath judged for thee this day from the hand of all that have risen up against thee. <32> And the king said to Chusai: Is the young man Absalom safe? And Chusai answering him, said: Let the enemies of my lord, the king, and all that rise against him unto evil, be as the young man is. <33> The king therefore being much moved, went up to the high chamber over the gate, and wept. And as he went he spoke in this manner: My son Absalom, Absalom my son: would to God that I might die for thee, Absalom my son, my son Absalom. ```

<1> And it was told Joab, that the king wept and mourned for his son: <2> And the victory that day was turned into mourning unto all the people: for the people heard say that day: The king grieveth for his son. <3> And the people shunned the going into the city that day as a people would do that hath turned their backs, and fled away from the battle. <4> And the king covered his head, and cried with a loud voice: O my son Absalom, O Absalom my son, O my son. ```

Was David eternally condemned after his death, or does the Harrowing of Hell free him from his fate?

2019-07-19 21:26:45 UTC

Been a long time since I've read any OT.

2019-07-19 21:29:04 UTC

I have not yet reached his death, but like many other kings and judges he is presented as not perfect, but his life usually includes repentance and punishment of his greatest sins

2019-07-19 22:06:08 UTC

I get the feeling God sent some mercy his way the way he is spoken of overall in scripture. If God didn't grant him mercy, it's not likely he granted it to just about anyone else up until Christ.

2019-07-19 22:30:45 UTC

Read a bit until after his death. It is evident that, despite his sins, more or less he followed God's precepts.

<13> And David said to Nathan: I have sinned against the Lord. And Nathan said to David: The Lord also hath taken away thy sin: thou shalt not die. <14> Nevertheless, because thou hast given occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, for this thing, the child that is born to thee, shall surely die. <15> And Nathan returned to his house. The Lord also struck the child which the wife of Urias had borne to David, and his life was despaired of. <16> And David besought the Lord for the child: and David kept a fast, and going in by himself lay upon the ground. <17> And the ancients of his house came, to make him rise from the ground: but he would not, neither did he eat meat with them. ```

Why kill someone who wasn't responsible for the sin of their father?

2019-07-19 23:04:02 UTC

Wasn't there any other punishment he could've faced that didn't require the killing of someone that literally did nothing wrong?
