I'm at work but will check them later

2018-10-11 20:03:12 UTC

How does one schismatise from the Ordodogs church?

2018-10-11 20:04:08 UTC

By schisming

2018-10-11 20:04:26 UTC

Schism is breaking of communion

2018-10-11 20:04:42 UTC

Old Believers broke away because they rejected reforms by a certain Nikon

2018-10-11 20:05:43 UTC

The Orthodox like to say that their liturgy hasn't changed for hundreds and hundreds of years, but the existence of the Old Believers disproves that.

2018-10-11 20:08:39 UTC

I am not an expert but as I recall, Nikon was actually trying to bring things more in line with the Byzantine rite

2018-10-11 20:08:47 UTC

Which is barely changed

2018-10-11 20:10:31 UTC

The Old Believers have the worst reason for schism I've ever seen.

2018-10-11 20:11:13 UTC

Honestly, yes.

2018-10-11 20:11:25 UTC

I can only imagine if every rite in the Catholic Church schismed because of basic liturgical reforms.

2018-10-11 20:12:30 UTC

A dozen SSPX's.

2018-10-11 20:16:13 UTC

Like I said they're basically Amish

2018-10-11 20:16:34 UTC

But afaik the anathema on them has been lifted and they're welcome to re enter communion and keep their old rite

2018-10-11 20:17:00 UTC

Glad to hear that.

2018-10-11 20:17:12 UTC

The difference isn't dogmatical, if I remember correctly.

2018-10-11 20:18:03 UTC

But what I mean is

2018-10-11 20:18:21 UTC

Like, a general sense of communion or from one of the patriarchs, or what?

2018-10-11 20:20:07 UTC

Now how do the old believers see the gayreeks, probably the same way the sspx sees norvus ordo

2018-10-11 20:20:33 UTC

The SSPX was partly justified though

2018-10-11 20:20:48 UTC

Because Vatican 2 wasn't 'just' basic liturgical reforms.

2018-10-11 20:21:00 UTC

Depends. If you look at the history of the early church you can find plenty of times in which bishops would schism from each other but everyone else would be in communion with both because it was basically a clerical spat - a bit like what's going on with Moscow and Constantinople

2018-10-11 20:22:59 UTC

Iirc the great schism was originally thought of as a clerical sperging out, that east and west bishops were like "give it a month or so"

2018-10-11 20:23:43 UTC

inb4 the East reunited and schismed again like, 4 times in total.

2018-10-11 20:23:58 UTC

Pretty much that, ruin

2018-10-11 20:24:48 UTC

I'm only aware of once that many eastern clerics were politically manhandled into submission before rightly breaking off again

2018-10-11 20:25:51 UTC

Wanting military aid is a poor reason to compromise correct doctrine and they paid the price for such sin

2018-10-11 20:28:21 UTC

Don't tell that to Earl Of Gray tho

2018-10-11 20:28:23 UTC

It happened a couple times mate. The Ecumenical Patriarch literally announced that the Church in Rome was the original Church and re-entered communion with it, until the Ottomans took over and established their own puppet Patriarch who broke it off again.

2018-10-11 20:29:14 UTC

Again, I've only heard of one time, that being Florence

2018-10-11 20:29:25 UTC

Inb4 you cite the forged letter

2018-10-11 20:29:43 UTC

what forged letter

2018-10-11 20:30:32 UTC

A forged letter supposedly conceding things to Rome that appeared around the time of the supposed writer's mysterious death

2018-10-11 20:30:43 UTC

But if you don't know then you must not have been going to

2018-10-11 20:30:53 UTC

But really, what other times than Florence?

2018-10-11 20:36:09 UTC

I thought there were a couple other ones, but now I think that one 'was' Florence.

2018-10-11 20:39:00 UTC

Honestly I don't really care anyway, as the Eastern Church is what's stopping Russia from 'modernizing' along with the rest of the West.

2018-10-11 20:40:20 UTC

Reconcilation with the Catholic Church at this time would only lead to Russia becoming run over by revolutionary ideology just like the rest of us.
