So when are you going Oriental?
Lel, more issues with them and EO and RC
They stepped out of the boat quite early
They deny tons of stuff
Miaphysitism is false
And they don't hold to the 5th or 6th council
Or go even earlier: Assyrian Church of the East.
Aren’t they literal Nestorians?
Yup, although they reject the label
Those are just heretics IMO
Some of the branch have reached sanity and joined the RCC
But the Assyrian Church of the East still has an anaphora in use attributed to Nestorius (as far as i know).
That’s incredible
Guys we aren’t Nestorians we just use this thing he wrote in our liturgy
They may be schismatic but they have a very hard time in the Mohammedan Middle East.
They still retained the sacraments, something we can't say about our Protestant "brothers" which JPII was so find of.
Sure, but when your Christology gets damaged, there comes a point where you are worshipping a different Christ
Also because of the aniconic idea of Muhammedanism and their intermingling for centuries, they don't have many or any icons at all.
Your point being?
They have been under the Mohammedan heel for too long and you forget parts of your tradition piece by piece.
But were you making a larger point?
Not really. Just chipped in the thing about the AACE because someone had isssues with both the RCC and EO
Gotcja
Fuk my keyboard turned Polzchizchzs on me
Found this btw about the non usage of Icons:
"In the sixth century, more than one catholicos of the Church of the East attempted without success to reach theological agreement and restore communion with the Church in the Roman Empire. Its principal divergence from that church was its rejection of the title of “Mother of God” for the Virgin Mary, although it has always acclaimed her as the “Mother of Our Lord, God, and Savior Jesus Christ.” (Its other noteworthy point of difference, its rejection of all pictorial iconography—a feature that attracted much interest from Protestants in the nineteenth century—Baumer shows to be an innovation of the late fourteenth century and a response to increased Muslim persecution."
Forgot about the Christotokos vs Theotokos issue
Huh
That’s funny
Most modern problems inside the Church and with the personal and internal faith people have can be explained through a close examination of the heresies in earlier times. Even 'secular' people in my country (with a capital famous for it's weed and prostution) fall for a lot of the early heresies unintentially.
What’s ur country fam
What country is famous for it's prostitution, weed and annual pride parade? (tip: it's Western European)
It's the Netherlands. I actually am from Amsterdam originally. Luckily my parents were so smart to leave when i was young.
Ah
I was struggling to think of a secularized country where Christianity is still a familiar enough idea for people to stumble into Christian heresies
@Wzl do you guys believe the Church of the East has Apostolic succession? I'm pretty sure succession of heretics is invalid
@Mozalbete ⳩ I feel like you're still just playing me here
Strangely enough, the country I'm from is pretty homophobic but a lot of the guys act like queers
@ u Russian?
Effeminate is bad too
@Quarantine_Zone VERY
